LOPEZ VS. KAMBOSOS JR. MEDIA DAY, PRESSER, BETTING ODDS & WEIGH-IN
No More Trash Talk! Matchroom Boxing and DAZN Presents Lopez Vs. Kambosos Tonight
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
New York, NY (November 27th, 2021)– The explosive trash talk by George Kambosos Jr. will play out tonight. Teofimo Lopez has stated George Kambosos Jr. and his manager Peter Kahn will pay for disrespecting him and his family. At Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City, on Saturday night, November 27, 2021, Teofimo “The Takeover” Lopez, 16-0 with 12 knockouts, Jonesboro, Arkansas will defend his World Boxing Association Super, International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Organisation, and Ring Magazine World Lightweight titles against challenger George “Ferocious” Kambosos Jr., 19-0 with 10 knockouts, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia in the main event of a DAZN and Matchroom Boxing eight-bout card.
Teofimo Lopez has warned George Kambosos Jr. that ‘God will humble him’ for disrespecting his family when he defends his IBF, WBO, WBA, WBC Franchise Lightweight titles on Saturday night (November 27) at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York, live worldwide on DAZN.
Said Lopez “You have to know your place. On Saturday (tonight), God is going to humble this man through me. The amount of disrespect from him. You disrespect my Mother? I told them, I warned him (and) his manager don’t talk about my family. I said they can say anything else, talk sh!t about me, say I am a cockroach, an ant. Once you cross that line, that barrier, f#*k his manager Peter Kahn and f#*k George Kambosos Jr. It’s all about being the people’s champ. Muhammad Ali was the greatest of all time for (symbolizing the good) those things. He (Ali) made a strong, strong impact on the sport (of boxing and all professional sports). So, for George, I have no respect for him at all, (none) at all.”
Matchroom Boxing submitted the high bid over Triller and Top Rank to promote this main event after a year of negotiations. On the eve of a critical crossroads bout for both combatants, and Kambosos talking big but still an unknown commodity outside of Australia, a reflection on the great fighter the lightweight division left behind is in order. Reflecting on the tombstone of southpaw Edwin “El Inca Dinamita” Valero, 27-0 with 27 knockouts, Merida, Venezuela, the former undefeated World Boxing Association Super Featherweight and World Boxing Council Lightweight world champion, the lightweight division, from Roberto Duran to Edwin Rosario to Edwin Valero, remains tough shoes of dominance to fill.
Lopez has taken over the lightweight division. Lopez is closer, while Australia’s Kambosos remains unknown commodity. Trash talk aside, Lopez is on the road to wiping out the lightweight division after defeating Vasyl Lomachenko at The Bubble, MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Madison Square Garden is yet another great setting for boxing greats. Lopez is favored by unanimous decision or later round stoppage in what should prove to be a hard fought and bitter war of punches. Lopez has been inactive over a year, as the Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc with boxer’s careers. How well inactivity impacts Lopez, Kambosos, and the other fighters on the card remains the big question. Big hitter ring rusty ex-world champions like Mikey Garcia and Julian Williams surprisingly lost their recent comeback bouts, and Lopez is facing what is sure to be the fight of his life against Kambosos, who in the least is ferocious, hungry, and dangerous.
Other Predictions on the Madison Square Garden Card
Azinga Fuzile Win 12 Kenichi Ogawa, Super Featherweights, for the vacant International Boxing Federation World Super Featherweight title
Raymond Ford Win 10 Felix Caraballo, for the World Boxing Associaiton Continental Featherweight title held by Ford
Reshat Mati Majority Draw 10 Nicolas Pablo Demario, Lightweights. Staten Island’s Mati is untested, and Argentina’s Demario has drawn and lost 10 round decisions to 25 or more win fighters twice in the last two months.
Zhilei Zhang TKO 4 Craig Lewis, heavyweights. The 6’6″ southpaw 22-0-1 Zhang drew in his last bout with 26-4 Jerry Forrest, and at age 38, the Chinese southpaw cannot wait much longer for a token title shot at Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk, if they give him the time of day.
Ramla Ali Win 4 Isela Vera, Super Bantamweights, two minute rounds
Anthony Herrera (Pro Debut) Win 4 Jonathan Tejeda (Pro Debut), Bantamweights
