The welterweight champion needed all five rounds to get past a game Ian Machado Garry, but a clear unanimous decision was enough to retain his title, push his winning streak to a UFC-record 17 in a row, and cement his case as the best fighter on the planet. He wasn’t the only champion still holding gold when the night ended: Mackenzie Dern cruised to her first successful strawweight title defense over Gillian Robertson in the co-main event, and Philadelphia’s return to the UFC’s numbered series after 15 years delivered one of the wildest upsets of the year on top of it.
Makhachev Makes History
Makhachev controlled the opening round by grinding Garry against the cage, but the fight really turned in round two when a left high kick out of the clinch buckled the challenger. Stoltzfus Shocks Abdul-Malik
The upset of the night belonged to Dustin Stoltzfus. A career underdog who came in 3-7 across his UFC tenure, Stoltzfus was a monster live-dog against a Mansur Abdul-Malik who’d been favored as high as -700. None of that mattered once the fight hit the mat in round two: Stoltzfus dragged Abdul-Malik down, worked into full mount, took his back, and locked up a rear-naked choke for the tap at 4:25, snapping the newly promising middleweight prospect’s win streak and picking up a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus in the process.
Barboza Retires After Brutal Finish
Edson Barboza’s storied 16-year UFC career came to an emotional end. Esteban Ribovics pressed him from the opening bell, splitting his face open and tearing open a gash on his shin before referee Herb Dean stepped in at 1:32 of round two. Barboza, fighting through tears, pulled off his gloves and laid them in the center of the Octagon, closing the book on one of the most electric careers the sport has seen, a run defined by highlight-reel finishes and a murderer’s row of a schedule few fighters would ever agree to.

Beyond the two title fights and the Stoltzfus upset, the undercard produced some of the night’s best moments.
