Buena Fortuna! Sampson Boxing Eyes Walters Unification Bout

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Correspondent

Atlantic City, NJ (April 14th, 2013)– Buena Fortuna! That’s Spanish for good fortune. One more big win, and promoter Sampson Liewkowicz and Sampson Boxing are most certainly back and in the mix!

Samson seeks to slay Goliath down the road. Sampson has his keen promoter eye on 22-0 World Boxing Association World Featherweight Champion Nicholas Walters, scheduled to defend his world title on May 11, 2013, in Kingston, Jamaica. No opponent is yet scheduled to fight Walters to for his WBA title listed on BoxRec.

To qualify, Sampson Boxing fighter 21-0 Javier Fortuna of the Dominican Republic, who won the interim WBA World Featherweight title by decisioning 27-0 Patrick Hyland at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, this past December 2012, will have to defend his interim title against 25-1-1 Mexican challenger Miguel Zamudio at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday, April 19, 2013, in this main event this weekend upcoming on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights.

If Samson Liewcowicz succeeds in making the WBA World Featherweight title bout between Nicholas Walters and Javier Fortuna a reality in the summer of 2013, the winner of Fortuna-Walters could get Cuba’s undefeated southpaw, World Super Bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux in a big money fight. another possibility is if Walters does have an opponent for May 11. Then Walters would probably be forced into a showdown by the WBA to fight Fortuna in June or July of 2013. The MGM Grand or Madison Square Garden would be a more appropriate venue for that Mega Fight.

It should be noted Walters and Fortuna are not yet marquee names, but are well on the road. The public wants great fighters in great matchups. Walters versus Fortuna seems inevitable, given the current roads of both fighters on a WBA collision course.

Sampson Boxing’s ability to get a big money chance slay ‘Goliath’ AKA Guillermo Rigondeaux could occur if Rigondeaux moves up from 122 to 126 pounds and Fortuna beats Zamudio and Walters OR if Fortuna beats Zamudio and Walters, and Sampson Boxing then fights a world title unification match with the winner of Rigondeaux versus 25-0-1 WBC undefeated champion Abner Mares, who holds the WBC World Super Bantamweight title. Mares will fight Daniel Ponce DeLeon for the WBC World Featherweight title at MGM Grand in Las Vegas on May 4, 2013.
