David Price (13-0) makes a statement and puts his name in contention for bigger bouts in the future with a first round stoppage of the ageing Audley Harrison (28-6). For many the fight was not worth happening anyway, as many lost faith in Harrison a long time ago.
In practise this was exactly the case. In true Audley fashion, Harrison failed to throw a single convincing punch with any intention of scoring. Price is difficult to judge sue to this and considering the fact that it only took 3-4 punches to stop his man.
The problem now is that we have very little impression on how Price would do against better, more serious opposition. He quite oddly claimed that the finish would have stopped any fighter in the world, including the Klitschko’s. It is obvious to any boxing fan that this is not the case.
During the Degaule fight, Tyson Fury was interviewed and in quite a heated manner insults Price and claims he will destroy him. This is interesting taking into account that only last year, Fury ducked Price and vacated his titles in doing so.
Ofcourse Fury would be an ideal fight for Price at this stage to prove his worth. Beyond that he risks either fighting low quality opponents through to his early thirties or jumping up in class too fast.
I do rate him and believe he has got potential. However, I urge fans not to believe he is ready for the big time just yet.
