Peñuelas, Puerto Rico – In the main event Samuel “Samito” Santana (5-6-2) won a six round split decision over Joshua “Macho” Santiago(7-1, 6 KOs). The Jr. welterweights put on an excited back and forth action type fight. Santana landed his left hook often and jabbed successfully in the first round. A questionable knockdown was called in the second when it appeared that Santiago slipped on the canvas. Both men were cut early in the third round from a clash of heads. Later in the round Santiago got the better of the inside exchanges. The heat turned on in round four with both men slugging it out. Macho started to get in his rhythm in the fifth round fighting from a distance and keeping Samito at bay. The last round saw both men throwing leather to a delight of the crowd. The questionable knockdown call could have played a role in the decision. The scores were read 57-56, 57-56, and 56-57.

Jorge “Machito” Maysonet(7-0, 6 KOs) stopped Gabriel Diaz(5-7-1, 1 KO) in the very first round of a scheduled six round Jr. welterweight bout. Maysonet went to work right away scoring a knockdown about 20 seconds into the fight connecting with a right hand. Machito then dropped Diaz with a body shot for a second knockdown. Moments later, the referee waved off the fight after Maysonet registered his third knockdown. This was the evenings co-main event.

Keith “Machine Gun” Tapia(5-0, 4 KOs) defeated Juan Carlos Robles(12-5-1, 5 KOs) by a six round unanimous decision. In the opening round Tapia displayed his hand speed, power and finesse to have an upper hand. Machine Gun showed his defensive skills as well as his moving ability in the second. Round three did not get any better for Robles as he was on the receiving end of Tapia’s blazing speed arsenal. Robles had his best round in the fourth when the fight stayed on the ropes and he was able to slip in his punches. Tapia took control of the fifth with his foot work and combination punching. The last round saw Tapia connect with uppercuts and utilizing his jab. Fight scores were 59-55 twice, and 60-54. This bout was at the heavyweight limit.
