The Universal Boxing Federation won official BoxRec recognition in January 2014.
Statement of Mike Melendez, the Universal Boxing Federation USA representative: “Right now we’re concentrating on the El Paso (Texas) UBF vacant Middleweight main event 10 round InterContinental Bout with Abraham Han and Juan Carlos Candelo this weekend. We’re also looking at females for our world title belts, Amanda Serrano, Melissa Hernandez, and Mia St. John. We’re looking into all our weight categories. We want to fill all our titles this year. This is going to be the UBF’s breakout year. We want to fill all our titles with quality fighters, world class fighters. At the moment we are still waiving the sanctioning fees, but it won’t be for much longer. For the heavyweights, we are going to very picky. There’s only a few guys out there who we think will have any shot at all who we will be chasing after. We really like Deontay Wilder. We’re keeping an open mind. If there’s a hungry undefeated heavyweight out there, we’ll also look at him and the quality of opponents he’s faced.”
