UFC 246 Las Vegas Massacre! Conor McGregor Destroys Cowboy Cerrone in 40 seconds
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Las Vegas, NV (January 19th, 2020)– In his second fastest MMA knockout win ever, Conor McGregor took out Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in a welterweight showdown, apparently breaking his nose and ending the bout by bashing his head in a pool of blood in the main event at UFC 246 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on January 18, 2020, in a 40-second first-round stoppage.
Lightweight McGregor, 22-4, Dublin, Ireland, Team SBG Ireland, held Cerrone at close quarters, scoring several shoulders to nose and face of Cerrone, following it up with a knee to the face, then a kick to the face, sending Cerrone down and out helpless along the cage. The last ten seconds of the bout were only a sadistic formality, as the referee allowed McGregor to batter Cerrone’s head with full impact power shots at will, giving the referee no choice but to stop the one-sided bout 40 seconds into the first round. Without a horse, or a game plan, the nervous Cerrone had nowhere to hide, and the 40 seconds Cerrone spent with McGregor must have seemed like an eternity in torture.
McGregor is thinking boxing as well, seeking either a high stakes boxing rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., a high stakes bout with current World Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, or several MMA championship possibilities.
One thing is for sure: Conor McGregor is back. MMA fans wanted blood and brutality, and McGregor served up a juicy sadistic portion. McGregor gave a brutal show of both confidence and accuracy. About the only things Cowboy Cerrone did which deserved praise was putting on his black cowboy hat at the end of the bout, and hugging his grandmother after the bout. If you paid to see McGregor pay-per-view, or attended the show in Las Vegas to see McGregor, you got to see him…..briefly. Cowboy Cerrone, 36-15, Broomfield, Colorado, Team BFM Ranch, might have just gotten nervous due to the attention McGregor got. ‘Cowboy’ may have lost, but he still has a nice black cowboy hat.
