El Charro and Benevidez Will Rule, 2300 Arena Philly Preview

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (August 5th, 2016)– Marshall Kauffman’s King’s Promotions, Tom Brown’s TGB Promotions, USA ESPN, Corona Extra, and Premier Boxing Champions will present an exciting card of boxing, as 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Friday, August 5, 2016.

In the main event, super middleweight David ‘El Bandera Roja’ Benevidez, 15-0 with 14 knockouts, Phoenix, Arizona, is favored by fifth round stoppage or knockout of southpaw super middleweight Denis Douglin, 20-4 with 13 knockouts, Marlboro, New Jersey. Benevidez, who is only 19 years old, has a knockout ratio higher than 93%. Douglin, who has been stopped three times before, falls short of the mark, experience versus age could give Douglin a better chance than most experts anticipate.

In the co-main event, lightweight Alejandro ‘El Charro’ Luna, 20-0 with 15 knockouts, Bellflower, California, is favored to win by 10 round decision over Stephen ‘The Rock’ Ormond, 21-2 with 11 knockouts, Dublin, Ireland.  Ormond’s International Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Lightweight title is at stake.

10-16-1 super welterweight Carlos Garcia of Aguada, Puerto Rico, is favored by eight round decision over Tyrone Brunson, 22-6-1 with 21 knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since getting stopped by Carson Jones in 2009, Brunson has lost all five of his serious comeback attempts. He might get stopped here by Garcia, who went the distance with former world champion Kermit Cintron in Philadelphia at 2300 Arena in his last outing and gave a good accounting of himself. 21 of Brunson’s 22 wins have come in the first round. Brunson has not won a bout in the United States since November 2009.

In an interesting matchup, 6-1 Philadelphia southpaw lightweight Jerome Conquest is favored to win by six round decision over 5-2 Victor Vazquez of Yonkers, New York. Debuting Kieran Hooks is favored by four round decision over 1-2 Dave Tomaso of Hudson, New York. Super featherweights Jamal Dyer and Mariano Rolon will debut against each other is a four rounder. Debuting lightweight Jeffrey Torres is favored to win by four round decision over 0-1 Shane Tyner of Lumberton, North Carolina. 1-0 super middleweight Edward Jeramie Ortiz of San Antonio, Texas, will also appear on the card.
