Road Warrior Glen Johnson at Road’s End, Loses Third Comeback Attempt at 46
Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Comeback Media Boxing Correspondent
Miami, Florida (August 19th, 2015)– Glen Johnson, the famed ‘road warrior’ of professional boxing from Jamaica, may have finally reached the end of the road. Johnson lost a ten round decision for the vacant WBC International Silver Light Heavyweight title to 5-0 Yavni Yildirim of Silvas, Turkey, in his adopted hometown of Miami, Florida. Johnson lost his two previous comeback attempts in 2014 to Eric Skogland and Ilunga Makabu.
Johnson, now 56-21-2 with 37 knockouts, may have hit the end of the warrior road at age 46. The former light heavyweight champion made his pro debut On February 19, 1993, with a first round stoppage win over Yurek del Rio at the Airport Hilton in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 19, 1993. The temptation to return to the ring past the point of practicality has haunted many a former champion, and Johnson, who has never refused a challenge in his 79 bout career, should probably call it a day before number 80 get proposed. Somehow I think ‘The Road Warrior’ will take that bout anyway, it’s his way. Amen.
