ANDERSON SILVA & NICK DIAZ FAILS DRUG TESTS
Las Vegas, NV (February 4th, 2015)– At UFC 183, Anderson Silva defeated Nick Diaz by a 5 round unanimous decision. Tuesday night the UFC received some bad news regarding two of the most popular fighters in mma history.
Anderson Silva, 39, (34-6) tested positive for drostanolone and androstane during a January 9th test. Silva returned for the first time after a 13 month lay off after he broke his leg against the UFC champion, Chris Weidman.
Silva had never before tested positive for a banned substance in his 18-year career.
Nick Diaz, 31,(26-10) tested positive for marijuana metabolites. Diaz has failed this test 3 times during his mma career.
No penalties have been set at this time. NSAC chairman Francisco Aguilar confirmed the positive test to ESPN.com.
“On Feb. 3, 2015, the UFC organization was notified by the NSAC that Anderson Silva tested positive for drostanolone metabolites on his Jan. 9 out of competition drug test,” the UFC said in a statement. “UFC’s understanding is that further testing will be conducted by the commission to confirm these preliminary results.
“Anderson Silva has been an amazing champion and a true ambassador of the sport of mixed martial arts and the UFC, in Brazil as well as around the world. UFC is disappointed to learn of these initial results,” the statement read. “The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by its athletes.”
