Amir Khan barely survives in a unimpressive 12 round decision

Yorkshire, England (April 27th, 2013)– Amir Khan’s (27-3, 19 KOs) speed was apparently visible from the opening bell. Julio Diaz (40-7-1, 29 KOs) had a difficult time finding him in the ring in the first couple of rounds. A left hook by Diaz floored Khan in the third round and Khan weathered the storm to make it out of the round.

Khan came back in the fourth by connecting on combinations and not staying stationary. Middle rounds were won by the quickness of Khan, as he fought behind his jab and also landing his uppercut punch. Mexican born Diaz hurt Khan in round ten with a series of right hand shots. Round 11 was another huge round for Diaz as he landed a right-left combination that had Khan on unsteady legs but managed to survive the round.

Diaz swept the final three rounds by coming forward connecting with telling blows. All three judges scored it for Khan 114-113, 115-113 and 115-112. The chin of Amir Khan remains suspect.
