By: Eliud Vazquez Torres

Pasig City, Metro Manila, PhilippinesBrian Viloria(30-3, 17 KOs) stopped Omar Nino Romero(31-4-2, 13 KOs) in the ninth round to retain his WBO flyweight championship. In the first both men came out to the center of the ring trading leather with Romero landing stiff jabs. Romero countered using his jab well in the second. Much better round in the third for Viloria, landing combinations and getting loose. Huge round four for Viloria as he landed a left hook on Romero staggering the Mexican nearly finishing him on the ropes. A cut on Romero’s left eye appeared. Romero again was hurt in the fifth and landed a low blow on Viloria to recuperate. Referee Michael Ortega deducted a point for the low blow. Things slowed down in the six with Romero controling the round with his jab. Very even round in the seventh with both men connecting well. Body shots were planted on Viloria by Romero to get the upper hand in round eight. An uppercut by Viloria had Romero stutter steping and after a few unanswered punches his corner threw in the towel. This was their third installedment. The first won by Romero and the rematch was declared a no-decision when Romero failed a post fight drug test. The rematch originally was a majority draw.

In the pre main even bout, former WBC jr. flyweight champion Rodel Mayol(31-5-2, 22 KOs) won a wide ten round unanimous decision over former WBO flyweight champion Julio Cesar “Pingo” Miranda(37-7-1, 29 KOs). Both fighters weighed in at 114.
