Chris John defeated Shoji Kimura to retain world title
Singapore – Chris John(47-0-2, 22 KO’s) pounded out a twelve round unanimous decision over Shoji Kimura(24-4-2, 9 KOs) to keep his WBA featherweight championship. It was another fight in which John fought an undeserving title challenger. Outside of round seven when Kimura found success with a few hard punches, John controlled the bout outboxing his opponent. The final scores were 118-109, 118-109, and 117-110. It was Johns 15th successful title defense.
In the pre main event bout, Daud Cino Yordan(29-2, 23 KOs) stopped previously undeafeted Lorenzo Villanueva(22-1, 21 KOs) in the second round. Villanueva dropped Yordan in the opening round. Yordan returned the favor in the second when he landed a powerful right cross on Villenueva to drop him and the fight was halted shortly after.
