Soto vs Matthysse Set For Khan vs Peterson II Underard

The Amir Khan vs Lamont Peterson May 19th card has added Humberto Soto vs Lucas Matthysse to the undercard.

Matthysse (29-2, 27 KO) is known for being a power puncher, tough chin and a physically strong pressure fighter. Many favor Matthysse to be the man at 140 and will could beat anyone in the division, providing that there are no controversial decisions, like in his fight with Zab Judah and Devon Alexander.

Soto (57-7-2, 34 KO), a former World Champ in three different weight divisions Featherweight, Super Featherweight, Lightweight and is hoping for a fourth title at Junior Welterweight. This fight with Matthysse is going to be a big test for Soto, who has moved up in weight from 135 to 140 just last year.  The size and power advantage will favor Matthysse that night, but Soto does have experience and battle test, he is a former World Champion after all.

The May 19th, Matthysse vs Soto and Khan vs Peterson bouts will kickoff the year in what I hope will be “The Year Of The Junior Welterweight Division.”  The division is loaded with talented junior welterweight contenders and champions, that can give boxing and its fans a solid year of action packed boxing in 2012. Let us hope that at least in this division, the fights that should be happening….will.
