Kenshiro Teraji Stops Seigo Yuri Akui

Flyweight Amazing Boy! Behind on Cards, Teraji Stops Akui in 12th for WBC & WBA Titles

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

In a flyweight Rocky Balboa style ending, World Boxing Council World Flyweight champion Kenshiro ‘The Amazing Boy’ Teraji, behind on the scorecards entering the twelfth and final round, finally succeeded in backing up game challenger Seigo Yuri Akui, stopping him midway through the round to retain his world title in dramatic style and unify the World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association World Flyweight titles, in the main event at Kokugican, Tokyo, Japan, Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Teraji, 25-1 with 16 knockouts, Uji, Kyoto, Japan, trailed on two scorecards 105-104 entering round 12, unable to win the contest without a knockdown, and even if he won the final round could only salvage a majority draw, as the rough tough Akui, 21-3-1 with 11 knockouts, Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan, the WBA Flyweight world titleholder and former Japanese Boxing Commission national flyweight champion, refused to go down.

Akui, fading with a cut lip and blood pouring from his nose, appeared able to continue, but the handwriting was on the wall with Teraji’s final accurate and lethal combinations which had finally broken him down. Akui had fired a lot of lefts and rights over the first three rounds to take the lead on the scorecards. From that point on it was a rock’em sock’em give and take affair, with Teraji landed slightly more often, and utilizing effective body shots. The bout maintained a furious championship pace, with Teraji’s jabs met with Akui’s counters in a 12-round trip to hell. In any case, Teraji was going to win the final round, which meant Akui was not going to win the bout on the scorecards if referee Katshuhiko Nakamura had let the bout run the final 87 seconds.

Result was Kenshiro Teraji won by stoppage at 1:33 of the 12th round over Seigo Yuri Akui, to retain the World Boxing Council World Flyweight title and win the World Boxing Association World Flyweight title.
