Canelo Alvarez Seeks Dmitry Bivol and GGG Golovkin Trilogy Super Bouts Later in 2022

San Diego, CA (February 10th, 2022)–Despite the upcoming Tyson Fury versus Dillian Whyte and Oleksandr Usyk versus Anthony Joshua II, and Felip Hrgovic versus Zhilei Zhang International Boxing Federation eliminator, the three major heavyweight titular matches coming up, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has some super ideas for multimillion-dollar Pay-Per-View mega fights brewing later on the 2022 horizon.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who had been looking to go up in weight for a fight with Ilunga Makabu, the World Boxing Council World Cruiserweight champion from Johannesburg, South Africa, is apparently now instead scoping the 175 pounds light heavyweight division again, where he previously defeated the then world champion Sergei Kovalev. World Boxing Association Super World Light Heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, Saint Petersburg, Russian Federation, is the immediate target for Cinco De Mayo in May 2022 for Canelo, either in a titular bout in the United States or in Canelo’s native Mexico.

ESPN reporter Mike Coppinger reported this week that Alvarez is in the process of finalizing a two-fight deal worth 85 million dollars with Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn. As above, the first bout would be against WBA World Light Heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in May 2022.

The other fight would be a trilogy bout against the man most experts believe beat Canelo in their first confrontation, Uzbekistan’s World Middleweight champion Gennadiy “GGG” Golovkin in September 2022. The GGG agreement with Hearn will be contingent in 2022 on Canelo first defeating Bivol, and Golovkin beating Ryota Murata in a middleweight title unification bout later this year. GGG versus Murata has been delayed due to Japan’s Coronavirus Pandemic border restrictions as the country is essentially shut down to incoming and ongoing visitors due to the spread of COVID-19. If Murata wins, Murata could be a Canelo opponent as well, or perhaps World Boxing Council World Middleweight champion Jermall Charlo, whose name has also been mentioned previously. Super middleweight contender Daniel Jacobs, who fights John Ryder this weekend in the United Kingdom, could also be a Canelo candidate later in 2022 if he wins.
