
Robin Zamora Wins Eight Round Main Event on Face mask Boxing Card in Nicaragua

Managua, Nicaragua (April 26th, 2020)–The capital city of Managua, Nicaragua, has broken the long dry spell of no live boxing events since March 11, 2020, over a month, by staging a careful eight-bout professional boxing card at Gimnasio Alexis Arguello on Saturday evening, April 25, 2020, promoted by former World Boxing Association World Light Flyweight champion Rosendo ‘El Buffalo’ Alvarez. The card was televised on Canal 6’s Facebook live feed and ESPN Deportes.
Everyone wore a face mask at the venue as required by the Nicaragua Sports Commission. Only the boxers were inside the ring were not wearing masks during their contests. Boxing fans in attendance, ringside officials, judges, referees, medical personnel, sports journalists, photographers, employees of the venue, and the boxing trainers and cornermen in attendance wore masks throughout, as did everyone else around the ring, including the cameramen and photographers, who were on or near the ring apron. Same for the ringside officials, judges and referees. Before entering the arena, on arrival at the venue spectators had their body temperature taken through their foreheads with no-contact thermometers, and hand sanitizer was sprayed onto their hands upon entrance. had to wipe the bottom of their shoes, and have a sanitizer product sprayed on their hands to prevent any possibility of the coronavirus. A minute of silence was observed at the start of the card in recognition of those who have died from COVID-19.
People working at or attending the boxing card were asked to be no closer than one meter from one another, which translates to about three and a half feet, less than the six feet social distance separation set in most of the world to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Nicaragua remains one of the very few countries in the world which currently allow sports events during the COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
After an opening four-round opening bout, six bouts of six rounds duration were fought. Managua super featherweight southpaw Robin Zamora, 18-7, with eight knockouts, won an eight rounds unanimous decision over fellow Managua super featherweight Ramiro Blanco, 18-7-3 with 10 knockouts, in a rematch of their October 2019 bout, won by Zamora by second-round stoppage, in a bout fought at the 135 pounds lightweight limit.
