Miguel Berchelt vs. Jason Sosa in ESPN WBC Battle For It All

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Carson, CA (November 2, 2019)– Miguel ‘El Alacran’ Berchelt will face the critical challenge of his boxing career when he defends his World Boxing Council World Super Featherweight title again former World Boxing Association World Super Featherweight champion Jason Sosa in the ESPN Main event at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday, November 2, 2019.

Berchelt, 36-1 with 32 knockouts, Merida, Mexico, and Sosa, 23-3-4 with 26 knockouts, Camden, New Jersey, share a most unique and strange common denominator. Both fighters were knocked out in the first round early in their careers. Both fighters, beneath the surface, have been plagued by a weak chin. When it comes to durability, both fighters pass the test with an asterisk. The one who will win this bout is the fighters who proves to be the more durable of the two. The edge goes to Berchelt.

This will be the fourth world title bout for Sosa, and it should prove to be an education for him. This will be the ninth consecutive world title bout for Berchelt, who has yet to be beaten as a WBC and WBO regional and world champion in ten titular bouts. Berchelt has only had to go the twelve round distance once, with a KO-TKO success ratio of 89%, which will go over 90 percent of Berchelt stops Sosa. Berchelt is predicted to win by a TKO in rounds seven through eleven.

Sosa, on the other hand, has gone the distance 13 times during his career, with a knockout percentage of 70 percent. Sosa has gone the distance three times with world-class opposition and stopped Javier Fortuna, a 29-0-1 world champion. A technical bout which goes the distance would favor Sosa, if he can take Berchelt the 12 round distance.

Given the background of the two fighters, in this test of power versus speed Berchelt should prevail. Expect the bout to go into deep waters, whoever wins.
