El Chinito Leo Wins 10 Rounder on ShoBox Mayweather Promotions Las Vegas Showcase
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Las Vegas, NV (April 6th, 2019)– In the main event of a Showtime ShoBox: The Next Generation eight bout card promoted by Mayweather Promotions on Friday night, April 5, 2019, at Sam’s Town Gambling Hall & Saloon in Las Vegas, Nevada, featherweight prospect Angelo ‘El Chinito’ Leo of Las Vegas, Nevada, went to 17-0, 8 knockouts with a unanimous 10 round decision over Filipino veteran Neil John Tabanao, 17-5, 11 knockouts, Mandaue City, Cebu, Philippines.
Leo, in his first ever ten rounder, appeared to win every round. Real Combat Media scored the bout 100-88 for Leo. Tabanao spent rounds eight and nine mostly covering on the ropes in defensive posture not throwing much, which led Real Combat Media to score the two rounds 10-8 for Leo. There were several fouls in this contest. Leo was warned twice for unintentional low blows. An accidental head butt from Tabanao midway through the contest left Leo with a swollen right eye which did not cut, but required his corner to use the end swell on their fighter’s right eye in the latter part of the contest to keep the swelling down. Leo outworked Tabanao with extreme volume, though his punches lacked the power to take Tabanao out. Referee Jay Nady spent almost the entire bout telling the fighters to watch their heads during close in fighting in a televised bout which featured no holding. Neither fighter was hurt. Tabanao was at competitive and had a good defense and stamina, but he was in survival mode, as was not throwing enough punches to win any rounds.
Result: Angelo Leo Win 10 Neil John Tabanao, Featherweights
Scoring: 110-90, 10-90, 100-89 for Angelo Leo.
