Light Heavyweight Fonfara Wins Michael Jackson Thriller of a Comeback
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Brooklyn, NY (March 5th, 2017)– A picture is still worth a thousand words. Behind on the scorecards, light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara of Chicago, Illinois, needed a miracle to pull out his comeback against former world light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson on the undercard at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday, March 4, 2017.
Fonfara managed to drop Dawson in the ninth round, but still needed that miracle in the tenth and final round. Few fighters can find it under such circumstances. Fonfara backed Dawson into a neutral corner, then landed a solid right, and followed up with power shots which forced referee David Fields to stop the bout and give Fonfara the upset victory.
Much like Michael Jackson’s song ‘Thriller’, Fonfara pulled the rabbit out of the hat and came up with a final round stoppage victory at 0:38 of round 10 in the scheduled 10 rounder, of the exciting type good for the sport of boxing. The picture tells the story. Amen. Sportswriter Robert Brizel’s education in a great comeback is seen in light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara’s tenth and final round comeback victory over Chad Dawson.
