ANDRE WARD CONSIDERING RETIREMENT
Oakland, CA (December 10th, 2016)– Andre Ward spoke with FightHype.com and he was asked about a rematch with Sergey Kovalev. Ward defeated Kovalev by a questionable decision last month in Las Vegas.
“The reality of the situation, Ben, is if a rematch doesn’t make sense, and I mean make a lot of sense all across the board, it doesn’t make any sense for me to come back and fight,” stated undefeated unified light heavyweight champion Andre Ward, who revealed that he’s seriously considering retirement following his career-defining victory over previously undefeated former world champion Sergey Kovalev. Having accomplished all of his goals in an unblemished 12-year professional career, Ward made it clear that going out on top to pursue other interests is not out of the question when it comes to his future plans.
“Bro, I’ve been boxing like a long time, man, and every fight at this point has to make sense in my career. Look, I don’t have to fight anymore. I’ve accomplished pretty much everything that I want to accomplish in the ring,” Ward explained during a recent interview with FightHype.com. “It’s not about the money anymore. I’m doing it because I still love it because God has blessed me with a tremendous talent. I still have a lot left in the tank, but if it doesn’t make sense, you know, it may be time to walk away. I don’t know. I gotta see how it goes.”
