Welcome back to another edition of the Real Combat Media Boxing Weekly Report “Boxing Blaze Edition” where we cover all the top news stories in boxing each week!
Monday (October 3, 2016)
Zab Judah Arrested
According to a report by TMZ, former boxing champion Zab Judah has been charged with domestic violence. His wife alleges that he was drunk and mad at the fact that she ruined his clothes. Judah says his wife was jealous at a woman who claims that she had a child with Judah. Judah says he did not touch his wife but his wife and his sister told the police a different story. Both his sister and his wife say he pushed his wife to the ground by her face causing her to hit the floor hard. The police said that they did not notice any marks when at the scene. Judah was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery and domestic violence. He has since been let go and is scheduled to go to court next month.
Bob Arum and Al Haymon in Talks
According to a report by ESPN Deportes Bob Arum and Al Haymon are in talks to put their fighters in the ring together in 2017. About two years ago boxing advisor Haymon emerged from the shadows and suddenly started contracting the best fighters at the time. When Haymon started his business in boxing it didn’t look like he was going to share his fighters with other promoters nor was Bob Arum. The two ended up in court when Bob Arum’s Top Rank filed an antitrust lawsuit against Haymon. The lawsuit was settled in May and they are now in good terms. Arum told ESPN Deportes “We have spoken and we are looking at the possibilities that exist to address some of the fighters from our company with some of his for next year. He’s a good manager.” Not only mention that he was in talks with Haymon, Arum also talked about putting his fighter on Showtime; something that is not often seen. “I have a meeting with Stephen Espinoza and Showtime’s people next week,” said Arum. “I’m in the business of promoting events, making boxing matches. We are not with signed to any networks. Anyone who is interested in our content, believe me I will be happy to sell it. We will continue doing events with HBO.”

Alexander Povetkin vs Bermane Stiverne Goes to Purse Bid
Alexander Povetkin and Bermane Stiverne were ordered to negotiate a fight between them two but they were unable to do so even when given an extension. As a result the fight will be going to purse bid on Friday October 7, 2016. A big dispute between the two camps is where the fight would take place. Here’s the plot twist, Stiverne’s promoter Don King wanted the fight over sea’s even considering Russia. While Povetkin promoter Andrey Ryabinsky wanted the fight in the Unites States. The purse bid will take place Friday in New York City where the two promoters will battle over who gets the fight. The winner of the fight will become the mandatory for the WBC Heavyweight Champion Deontay Wilder.
Tyson Fury was suppose to fight Wladimir Klitschko in a rematch on October 29, 2016 but Fury tested positive for cocaine on September 22, 2016 after submitting a urine sample to VADA. Recently Fury talk about his drug use in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine. According to Fury he’s done a lot of cocaine but he only started recently. “Listen, I’ve done a lot of things in my life. I’ve done lots of cocaine. Lots of it. Why shouldn’t I take cocaine? It’s my life isn’t it? I can do what I want. Yeah, I have done cocaine. Plenty of people have done cocaine as well. What the f* has that got to do with anything? That ain’t a performance enhancing drug. Am I not allowed to have a life now as well? Do they want to take my personal life off me too? I’ve not been in a gym for months. I’ve not been training,” said Fury. If Fury hasn’t been in a gym in months does this mean he never intended to fight Klitschko or was he expecting to get knocked out for an easy check? Will Fury’s cocaine use be the end of his career or will we see him return? While he does admit he used cocaine he denies ever using a performance enhancing drug.
Wednesday (October 5, 2016)
Will Golovkin vs Jacobs go to Purse Bid?
After Gennady Golovkin beat Kell Brook by technical knockout in the fifth round he was ordered to fight his mandatory Daniel Jacobs. The two teams have until October 5, 2016 to make the fight. Failure to do so will result the fight going to purse bid. As of now if the fight goes to purse bid it will be split 75-25 in favor of Golovkin. It is also possible that the WBA gives the negotiations an extension. The two teams are aiming to fight on December 10, 2016 in New York.
David Haye to Return on December 10
In a twitter post David Haye announced he will be returning on December 10, 2016 with the opponent and venue to be determined. As of now a likely opponent looks like Shannon Briggs who has been calling out Haye for a while now. David Haye took a break in 2011 and five years later made a come back in early 2016. Haye has had three fights since his return but he is looking to retire after 2017. Haye is ranked in all four sanctioning bodies so is it possible that he may be competing for a belt? After all former WBA/ WBO/ IBF Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury was stripped of many belts who know have no owner. It would not be out of the realm of possibility.
Mayweather Owes $1.4 Million ?
On September 23, 2016 a company by the name of The Jewelers Inc. filed a lawsuit against former World Champion Floyd Mayweather. The company alleges that Mayweather paid $1.6 million towards a $3 million necklace and hasn’t paid a cent since May of 2016. Mayweather’s representative Leonard Ellerbe says that Mayweather has no comment on the lawsuit filed against him.
Thursday (October 6, 2016)
Boxing Judges Temporarily Suspended
The 2016 Rio Olympics was filled with controversy in the sport of boxing when it looked like several wins were given to the wrong fighters. As a result the amateur boxing body AIBA has suspended 36 boxing referees and judges. They will not be allowed to partake in any amateur matches until the investigation is done. The AIBA is looking to make a change in order to make sure that bad decisions will not be given in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Curtis Stevens Returns to the Ring
Curtis Stevens is set to make a return to the ring on November 19, 2016 against a fighter by the name of James De La Rosa. The two will be fighting in the T-mobile Arena in Las Vegas on the undercard of Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward. Unfortunately the Stevens fight will not be televised. Stevens is coming off TKO win against Patrick Teixeira. Even if Stevens makes a comeback it will be tough to obtain a title considering the a majority of the title is being held by knockout connoisseur Gennady Golovkin who previously defeated Stevens; it looks like he is in an uphill battle.
Friday (October 7, 2016)
Golovkin vs Jacobs Negotiations Receives Extension
After Gennady Golovkin beat Kell Brook by technical knockout in the fifth round he was ordered to fight his mandatory Daniel Jacobs. The two fighters had until October 10, 2016 to negotiate the fight but the WBA has given them extra time to reach a deal. Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler ask for a purse bid but the WBA wants to see a deal reached between the two sides. The two teams have until October 22, 2016 to reach a deal.
Povetkin vs Stiverne Purse Bid Winner
The Promoter of Alexander Povetkin, Andrey Ryabinsky, has won the purse bid for Povetkin vs Bermane Stiverne. Ryabinsky’s final bid was $3.6 million beating Don King for the promotional rights to the fight. Alexander Povetkin and Bermane Stiverne were ordered to fight by the WBC. The negotiations were given an extension after a deal couldn’t be made, after being unable to make a deal the fight went to purse bid. A date nor a venue has been decided on as of now but it wouldn’t be surprising if the fight ended up in Russia.

Luis Ortiz Signs with Matchroom Boxing Promotions
Heavyweight WBA Interim Champion Luis Ortiz has signed with Matchroom Boxing which is run by Eddie Hearn. Luis Ortiz was formerly under Golden Boy Promotions but then left in August of 2016. Now that Luis Ortiz is under Eddie Hearn he might be able to get a fight with Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua who is also promoted by Eddie Hearn. Ortiz is also in line to get a shot at the actual WBA World Heavyweight title assuming that Tyson Fury gets stripped of his title. Ortiz is set to fight against Carlos Takam on November 12, 2016 in Monte Carlo.
