Can Thomas LaManna Can Succeed at Welterweight? 2300 Arena Preview

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Philadelphia, PA (September 13th, 2016)– Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna, from the start of his career, has remained somewhat of an unpredictable mystery. His physique resembled a cornflake. LaManna proved to be a very proficient boxer from the start of his career. LaManna has height, speed, stamina, endurance, and a disciplined hard work ethic. However, LaManna, fighting between 151 ¾ and 163 pounds between 211 and the present, appeared to be fighting in weight classes slightly higher than where he belonged.

On Thursday evening, September 15, 2016, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Peltz Boxing Promotions and Russell Peltz, GH3 Promotions and Vito Mielnicki, and Final Forum Promotions and Sal Musumeci will present an exciting eight bout card of boxing at 2300 arena in Philadelphia, broadcast on the CBS Television Network. LaManna will fight the 10 round main event for the vacant USBA Welterweight title. This means LaManna, 21-1 with nine knockouts, Millville, New Jersey, will have to make weight in at 147 pounds or less to make weight, nearly five pounds below his lowest known fight weight during his five bout professional career.

The advantages of such a move are obvious. In dropping to the lower weight class, if LaManna gets there (and he will) means he will have considerable more power in both hands, anc accelerated speed in his hands and feet. His technical ability, which is already very good, will improve. His only weakness has been a relatively quiet corner, and his inability to revert to a ‘Plan B’ if ‘Plan A’ does not work. Presumably LaManna will up the stakes and his boxing game one level when he faces Dusty Harrison, 29-0-1 with 16 knockouts, Washington, D.C.

LaManna will be the taller of the two. He’s tall. He’ll have more power than previous fights, if he weighs in at 147, he’ll go back up 155 to 160. In terms of power, this will give LaManna the advantage. Harrison had an amateur background. Any man who steps in the ring with two hands has a chance. Like they say in football, any given Sunday. Any given fight night anything can happen. Harrison has not fought anybody, but LaManna has not fought anybody. Harrison will try. His 10 round win over Tommy Rainone at Madison Square Garden was credible. LaManna has size edge, however, and his weight on fight night will give him the power edge.

Prediction: Thomas LaManna TKO 9 Dusty Harrison, Vacant USBA Welterweight title

In the preliminary to the main event, New Jersey Heavyweight champion Dan Pasciolla is predicted to win by fifth round knockout over ex-football player Ray Edwards in a scheduled six rounder. Edwards follows the likes of Mark Gastineau, Tye Fields and Seth Mitchell as football players trying to become boxers. Real heavyweights pick fake heavyweights apart. Pasciolla is a notch above Edwards, but he might have to work for the win here if Edwards does not want to go.

Other Predictions

Anthony Young Win 6 Malik Jackson, Welterweights

Kenneth Sims Jr. Win 6 Gilberto Venegas, Super Lightweights

Devin Haney TKO 4 Mike Fowler, Lightweights

Darryl Bunting Draw 4 Darryl Gause, Super Middleweights

Leroy Davila TKO 4 Edgar Cortes, Super Bantamweights

Jaron Ennis Win Split Decision 4 Eddie Diaz, Welterweights
