By Zo Crooks,Real Combat Media Chicago Boxing Correspondent

Here we go again with another weekly edition of Real Combat Media Boxing Weekly Report the “Split Decision Edition”!  As usual we try to keep you updated on the latest news and notes on what’s going on in the world of boxing.  We have coverage from last week’s past fights featuring Deontay Wilder, Adrien “The Problem” Broner, Lucas Matthysse vs. Viktor Postol results and more.  Plus the upcoming PBC fights as well as news on Keith “One-Time” Thurman and “Showtime” Shawn Porter, and Andre “SOG” Ward and Sergey Kovalev, and more… Let’s get it!!!

Sweet Home Alabama.Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder defended his heavyweight title for the second time in a row in his home state of Alabama.  Wilder took care of business against Johann Duhaupas no doubt but it wasn’t easy.  Duhaupas had an iron chin or something because the shots he took would’ve laid down anyone else for real!  Wilder took it to him from the opening round and didn’t let up until the ref stepped in and stopped the bout in the 11th round.  The victory pushed Wilder’s record to (35-0 34 KOs).  As for Duhaupas his record dropped to (32-3 20 KOs) but he also left the ring with mad respect for standing in there and toughing it out the way that he did.

The Iceman cometh!!!…Viktor “The Iceman” Postol (28-0 12 KOs) is on a mission.  Dude did something that no man has done to Lucas Matthysse (37-4 34 KOs) Saturday in Carson, CA….he stopped him!  Matthysse lives up to his name, “The Machine”, but on Saturday night the machine came to a halt.  Postol came to fight!  The Iceman was pumping the jab early while controlling the distance and doing what he had to do to stay away from Matthysse’s right hand.  Matthysse caught him a few times but Postol kept his composure.  In the later rounds Postol settled into a groove and began to mix it up to the head and the body.  Then in the tenth round…BOOM!!!  Postol caught Matthysse with a right to his eye that dropped him.  Matthysse looked like he could beat the count easily but decided to stay down.  WHAT????  Did dude quit???  Later Matthysse revealed that he lost his vision after being clocked in his eye.  I hope he didn’t pull a JCC if you know what I mean.  Good victory for The Iceman…next Terrence Crawford or AB???  Hmmmm….

The Nasty Nati Return….”You know, AB (About Billions, Always Ballin)”, made his return to the ring in front of his hometown fans of Cincinnati, OH and added another title to his resume when he took out Khabib Allakhverdiev.  This version of Broner was “AB” (About Business).  He looked sharp as hell and focused in this bout.  His conditioning was also on point.  Broner was more aggressive and let his hands go more than usual.  Don’t get it twisted because Allakhverdiev was a game opponent and no punk himself.  He was just outclassed and out-boxed against Broner.  Broner said it best at the end of his bout…”When I am on my shit a fly can’t be around me!”  If this version of Broner continues…watch out!!!

On the undercard of Broner vs Allakhverdiev, Shobox featured some quality bouts:

Cherry Bombed!!!….Edner “Cherry Bomb” Cherry (34-7-2 19 KOs) took on Jose Pedraza (20-0 12 KOs) for Pedraza’s junior lightweight title.  This right here….this bout right here…was a robbery!  Flat out.  What made it even more crazy is the scorecards and how wide of a margin that the two judges had it (117-111 for Pedraza).  Cherry clearly won the bout.  Hands down.  I’m not saying that compubox is the most accurate thing in the world but damn Cherry landed 243 punches to Pedraza’s 187.  Pedraza got off to a good start but Cherry figured him out quick and adjusted landing that strong right hand.  The fight was good but Cherry deserved the nod no doubt!!!

Easter came early….Undefeated Ohio native and former 2012 Olympic alternate Robert Easter Jr. (16-0 13 KOs) took out Juan Roman Solis (20-10 9 KOs) in three rounds.  Keep a look out for Easter!  Easter made light work of Solis in the lightweight bout.  He put in that photographer work…head and body shots all day!  Only one to say it…he beat his a#%!

Jam Session….2012 Olympian NY prospect Jamal Herring (14-0 8 KOs) defeated Yakubu Amidu (21-8-2 17 KOs) of Ghana.  This was the first bout that Herring went 10 rounds but he looked sharp in doin g so.  Straight shut-out performance by Herring who got his first taste of exposure on Showtime Extreme.

Can you smell what Jose is cooking?….. Jose Uzcategui (24-1 20 KOs) vowed that Julius “The Chef” Jackson (19-1 15 KOs) wouldn’t last six rounds against him Tuesday night and you know what…he was right!  In the PBC bout that took place in San Antonio, TX Uzcategui handed Jackson his first professional loss.  It all started in the first round when Uzcategui caught Jackson with a right hand to the temple.  He floored Jackson three times in the first and stopped him in the second.

 Upcoming PBC Bouts:

Saturday October 10 on NBCSN at 8PM ET/ 5PM PT Southpaw Danny O’Connor looks to avenge one of his two career losses in a 147-pound rematch with Gabriel Bracero at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Lowell, Massachusetts.  Plus Jonathan Guzman vs Danny Aquino and rising local prospect Ryan “The Polish Prince” Kielczweski (23-1, 7 KOs) takes on the exciting Rafael “Dynamite” Vazquez (16-1, 13 KOs).

Tuesday October 13 on FS1 9PM ET/ 6PM PT undefeated Gerald Washington (16-0 11 KOs) takes on Amir Mansour (22-1 16 KOs) in a heavyweight bout.  The scheduled 10-round showdown from Little Creek Casino Resort in Shelton, Washington, headlines a Premier Boxing Champions Toe-to-Toe Tuesdays card.

Wednesday October 14 on ESPN at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT Former world champion Devon Alexander “The Great” (26-3, 14 KOs) takes on battle-tested Mexican Aron Martinez (19-4-1, 4 KOs) at Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ.  World champion Lee Selby (21-1, 8 KOs) makes his US debut facing former three-division world champion Fernando “Cochulito” Montiel.

WORD IS……

Unified junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux is on the verge of being stripped of one of his title belts because of inactivity.  Rigondeaux (15-0, 10 KOs), the two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist is in the same position that Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade was in.  On Wednesday, the WBO sent him and Caribe Promotion a letter ordering them to show cause as to why Rigondeaux shouldn’t be stripped.  The WBO gave Rigondeaux 10 calendar days “to show cause” why the title “should not be declared vacant.”  Should Rigondeaux get stripped of the WBO title, Mexico’s Cesar Juarez (17-3, 13 KOs) and Donaire (35-3, 23 KOs), ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the WBO ratings, likely would meet for the vacant belt.

Ruslan Provodnikov has teamed up with Timothy Bradley’s former trainer Joel Diaz.  Diaz, who had trained Bradley for his entire career, was fired a month ago and now is the head trainer for Provodnikov, who came to him two weeks ago after parting ways with Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

Super middleweight titlist James DeGale (21-1, 14 KOs) and Montreal star Lucian Bute (32-2, 25 KOs) are expected to meet Nov. 28 at the new Videotron Center in Quebec City, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the bout. Showtime likely would televise the fight in the United States.

Featherweight titlist Gary Russell Jr. (26-1, 15 KOs), whose first defense is slated to come against Oscar Escandon, is penciled in for Nov. 14 on Showtime at a site to be determined. The bout was originally announced for Oct. 24, but scheduling issues forced a change.

Keith “One Time” Thurman could be facing “Showtime” Shawn Porter.  They are penciled in to fight Dec. 12 (at a site to be determined) on Showtime, multiple sources with knowledge of the fight told ESPN.com. Showtime declined comment on Wednesday.  This could be a hell of a matchup!

Super middleweight title holder Arthur Abraham will square off with Martin Murray.  Abraham will make the fifth defense of his second 168-pound title reign by facing Murray on Nov. 21 in at TUI Arena in Hannover, Germany, promoter Sauerland Event announced Wednesday.

Awwww sh*#!  Unified light heavyweight title holder Sergey Kovalev scratched his November 28 homecoming bout in Moscow against an opponent to be determined.  Word is…Kovalev has his sights set on Andre “SOG” Ward!  Kovalev fights on HBO and Ward’s promoter Roc Nation Sports and Main Events are trying to finalize a three fight deal on HBO which could make a fall showdown on HBO PPV.  This would be HUGE!!!

Super middleweight contender Andre Dirrell withdrew Monday from his fight next week against Blake Caparello because of undisclosed medical reasons, Premier Boxing Champions said.  The scheduled 10-round fight was due to take place Oct. 17 at the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, and be televised as the co-feature on NBC (4 p.m. ET).  The main event is a welterweight fight between former junior welterweight titlist Lamont Peterson (33-3-1, 17 KOs), who is from nearby Washington, D.C., and 2008 Dominican Olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz (17-0, 8 KOs).  Taking the place of Dirrell-Caparello will be a 10-round welterweight contest between prospect Prichard Colon (16-0, 13 KOs), 23, of Puerto Rico and Terrell Williams (14-0, 12 KOs), 31, of Los Angeles.
