We are back again this week with another edition of the Real Combat Media Boxing Weekly Report “Split Decision Edition” . This week in boxing we have news and coverage from Money May’s next opponent, Rigo vs Lomachenko vs Quigg, Chavez Jr. and Carl Frampton fights this weekend, and The Young Master Amir Iman performance and the return of the Filipino Flash. We also have updates on Andre Ward, Amir Khan, Pacquiao and that damn shoulder, and my man Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade might be back in business and more! Let’s go!!!
Carl Frampton made his U.S. debut this weekend. The Jackal from Northern Ireland took on Alejandro “Cobrito” Gonzalez Saturday afternoon on the CBS network televised PBC bout in El Paso, TX. Frampton touched the canvas for the first time in his career twice in the first round. That was one of the only chances that Gonzalez would get the rest of the night as Frampton got his composure and boxed to a unanimous decision victory. It may not been his best performance but he showed heart and resiliency. Can’t be mad at that.
Frampton afterwards stated that he had trouble making weight and is considering moving up to Featherweight. Frampton is one of Al Haymon’s boys so he could be matched at featherweight against the likes of Gary Russell Jr, Jesus Cuellar or the winner or Abner Mares and Leo Santa Cruz. Scott Quigg at Super Bantamweight is a good match up waiting to happen as well.
Chris Arreola didn’t draw the attention of many people with his performance but he fought to one against his Fred Kassi. Truth be told he is blessed by the boxing gods to walk away with a draw. Kassi landed more shots and that right hand was on point. Arreola fought a little better in the later rounds but it wasn’t enough in my opinion to get a draw. According to Compubox Kassi landed 135 shots to Arreola’s 97. Kassi also threw more shots than Arreola. Still Arreola might land a title fight against Wilder in September. Hmmmm….ok!
Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire made is return to the ring this weekend. The Flash looked good as he took out Anthony Settoul in the second round. Donaire dropped Settoul twice in the first round. His corner threw in the towel in the second round. Donaire kept his title hopes alive with an impressive victory. I hear he is looking at the WBA regular title holder Scott Quigg next even if it’s in the UK.
Scott Quigg took on Kiko Martinez Saturday night. Quigg, the junior featherweight from the UK, looked good against Martinez by stopping him in two rounds. Martinez is known as a durable guy but checked out early against Quigg.
Guillermo Rigondeaux vs Vasyl Lomachenko vs Scott Quigg! Rigo was trying his best to set up a fight with himself and Vasyl Lomachenko recently. First Rigo requested a catchweight of 124 lbs and that was rejected. Then he agreed to meet Lomachenko at his 126 lb limit with a rehydration clause and that too was rejected. Although both sides have yet to come to an agreement Egis Klimas, Lomachenko’s manager, believes that a deal can be reached.
Now there are talks about Rigo vs Quigg in Manchester before the end of the year. Gary Hyde, manager for Rigo, has informed RingTV.com that talks with Eddie Hearn, manager for Quigg, have started about the matchup between the two. Rigo would go up to 126 to face Quigg as well with no possible opponents at 122 lbs. Hearn feels like Nonito Donaire vs Quigg is more likely than Quigg vs Rigo. Damn is Rigo the Boogeyman of boxing?
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. couldn’t weight to get back in the ring this weekend. On the Shobox card Saturday night Chavez Jr. took on Marcos Reyes in a scheduled super middleweight bout. The bout was contracted at 168 lbs but was moved up to a catchweight of 170 lbs during fight week because Chavez Jr. had trouble making weight. His ass still came in overweight at 170.8 lbs!!! This isn’t the first time he has done that. He has a new trainer in Robert Garcia. Garcia is definitely one of the best in the game right now and in my opinion can help Chavez Jr. become the fighter that he can be. Chavez Jr. have to want that shit though! Bottom line. He is with the right man for the job.
That performance Saturday night was not Chavez Jr.’s best at all. He looked sluggish in my opinion but it was later stated that Chavez Jr. possibly injured his left hand or broke it. However the case Reyes landed more punches in the bout but Jr. power punching made the difference. The shots by the heavier Chavez Jr. took a toll on Reyes althought Jr. started to slow down later in the fight. His conditioning looked poor but as Garcia pointed out that it is just one fight with him. More time under Garcia might prove the difference going forward for Chavez Jr. It’s all on him on how far he wants to take his career at this point. The bullshit has to stop though!
Amir Imam moved like a Young Master in that ring Saturday night. In the opening bout on Shobox the Young Master took on veteran Fernando Angulo in a scheduled Junior Welterweight bout. Imam his one of the hottest prospects in the game right now if not the hottest!!! Dude got some serious skillz as he displayed Saturday night. Imam has a long swift and snappy jab that he used effectively against Angulo. Angulo tried to make it rough fight and had a lil success doing so but Imam kept picking him off. Angulo did his best work inside when he had Imam on the ropes. In round 4 the Young Master gave Angulo a 2 piece special and sent him home.
Imam may be in line for a title shot at this point. He has looked really impressive in the pro ranks thus far. He is undefeated with a record of 18-0-15 KOs. Word is…Imam might be in line to face the winner or Lucas Matthysse and Viktor Postol fight.
Speaking of Lucas Matthysse and Viktor Postol….there is a deal in place for the two to meet October 3rd at the Stub Hub Center in Carson, CA. Postol, a Top Rank fighter from Ukraine, and Matthysse, a Golden Boy fighter from Argentina, came to an agreement right on time because a WBC purse bid was scheduled for Monday. This should be a good one!!!
King Arthur Abraham met Robert Stieglitz for the 4th time! Abraham had his best fight in four tries with Stieglitz by taking him by scoring a 6th round TKO when his corner threw in the towel. Abraham is now 3-1 against Stieglitz, which began back in 2012.
Andre Ward is ready for Gennady Golovkin right now!!! Ward has officially called out GGG in an interview with Fightnews.com. Word is that Ward don’t give a damn if the fight is at 164 or 168 lbs. As long as he gets GGG next. That fight will likely be on HBO PPV. If everyone thinks that GGG is the real deal and that everyone is afraid of him…here is his chance to prove them wrong. Ward in my opinion is the second best fighter in the world with only Money May in front of him. Ward has spoken and he doesn’t do that often. That means that the man is dead ass serious. If GGG wants to prove himself then here you go!
I’ve been A-1 since day 1….Boo Boo!!!! Demetrius Andrade may finally return to the ring sometime in the near future. Ear to the concrete I hear that Anthony Mundine is in negotiations with Boo-Boo. There have been talks about Boo Boo going to Australia to defend his WBO junior middleweight belt against Mundine but nothing in stone yet. It seems like someone always agree to fight Boo Boo until it’s time to sign on the dotted line. We shall see though. It’s a shame that Boo Boo has been on ice for this long and is a champion at that! I don’t see nobody calling him out or lining up to fight him neither. That should tell you something. I am going to write an article on that tomorrow. I hope to see him back in the ring soon!
David Price must have tired this weekend because he took a nap in the ring. Ekran Teper rocked Price to sleep in the second round of a heavyweight bout in Germany this weekend. For Price it was all good just a couple of years ago before USA’s Tony Thompson exposed his chin in back to back TKO losses for Price. Teper, although undefeated at 15-0, is known to be a mediocre fighter. Price didn’t look good against Teper even before he went to sleep.
50 Cent filed bankruptcy! Ordinary people will look at his and think he is broke. Smart people will know that this is a smart business move to protect some assets. Trump and others like him have been doing this for years! 50 still got bank…believe dat!!!!
Amir Khan will not fight Kell Brook whatsoever….especially not this year. Something tells me that Khan knows something that we don’t. It’s not all on him. It’s something deeper. Check out his recent interview on IFLtv.
Bob Arum publicly criticized Manny Pacquiao for missing rehab on his shoulder this week. I’m just going to leave this right there for you!
Ronda Rousey won an ESPY for fighter of the year. Rousey beat out Money May and Terrence Crawford to win the award voted by the viewers and fans. Its just an ESPY. Of course she shouldn’t have won fighter of the year over Money or Crawford. However that didn’t stop her from taking a shot at Money after receiving the award. According to Rousey she has been waiting a whole year to get back at Money because he stated that he had no knowledge of who Ronda Rousey was last year during an interview. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorn!!!!
TMZ Sports reported that a fight between Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Andre Berto is official….the only problem with that is Money didn’t confirm it. It is only official when Money comes out and say that it is official. Bottom line. The backlash on it though is harsh which to me is some bs. People are will never be satisfied until Money faces Jesus or somebody. Berto is a credible foe and is no punk neither! It’s not like Money is fighting Algeri or somebody…lol.
Last week I did an interview with the Wonder Woman of Boxing Kelly Swanson. If you haven’t seen it please check it out. Very deep interview. This woman does everything behind the scenes. She totally makes shit happen! PERIOD! Go to the link to check it out. https://youtu.be/62_A3rArAUk
