Bing Bang Boom! Could Pacquiao Spell Doom For Floyd?

Editorial By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Las Vegas, NV (April 30th, 2015)– In the main event on Saturday evening, May 2, 2015, it will be showtime on Showtime and HBO, as Floyd Mayweather Promotions and Top Rank present the ultimate confrontation: Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Manny Pacquiao, for the title of universally recognized welterweight world champion. The Floyd versus Pacman mega bout idea came and went for years, and now it is finally happening. Place your bets. Some people are evening betting the bout will end of a draw after 12 rounds in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand.

As the moment of excitement approaches, my money will be on Floyd. Many experts are saying while they expect and predict Floyd to win, they would rather see Manny Pacquiao win. Let me explain this strange logic. The experts are putting their money on Floyd, but still they would prefer it is Pacman pulls the upset. The kids of hard work involved in this bout is unlike any other. Pacquiao wants to win it all, and win big, and is willing to take chances to get the big win. Floyd, on the other hand, wants to reach 49-0 and 50-0 and maintain his unblemished record. So it’s either or, but it cannot be both.

Pacquiao’s issues are he’s a shorter guy who’s been knocked out three times by better fighters. Pacquiao has the potential to outbox Floyd, but not the potential to knock him out.Marcos Rene Maidana outboxed Floyd for the first five rounds of their first bout.

Pacquiao’s roadmap to victory is quite simple. Outbox Floyd for the first seven rounds, keep him on the ropes on the defensive, pressure and smother him, and win the bout on the cards right away. Floyd’s greatest asset in this bout is not age, it is his high IQ instincts for finding his opponent’s mistakes.

Against Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao got cocky, looking for a knockout, and got nailed while out of position and knocked out. Floyd may try to bait Pacquiao into a trap, presuming Pacquiao may get caught up in the emotional high of the moment and go for broke when he should not. If the fight does not end early, Floyd versus Pacquiao will go into the championship rounds, 9, 10, 11 and 12. I do not like a draw. Whoever wins, I do not figure Floyd versus Pacquiao to go the distance. If it does goes the distance, the cards could be in different directions, owing to the venue of Las Vegas.

Pacquiao could get lucky if Floyd gets cocky and goes for the knockout himself. If Floyd varies from the correct game plan, Pacquiao is very capable of turning the tables and knocking Floyd out. More than likely, the best person will win. Pressure from Manny may force Floyd to throw caution to the wind. If this happens, the live and television viewers will get their money’s worth and a whole lot more. A couple knockdowns in either directions could dramatically affect the judge’s scorecards and how they score subsequent rounds. For the first time in Floyd’s career, his name is no longer his greatest asset with the judges.

Manny Pacquiao is as known than Floyd is. Perhaps the win will go to the fighter who wants it most, did more work and came in with victory in mind. Pacquiao and Floyd are the two biggest money fighters in the boxing business today. Viewers will get their money’s worth, for as long as it lasts. If Floyd is still atop his game, and refused to let Pacquiao get inside, it could be another long night fort everyone as Floyd wins yet again.
