“Jimenez On Point & Ready for the 25th”

By Pattee Mak, RCM New England Boxing Correspondent

Super featherweight Marcos “El Tigre”`Jimenez(20-5-0, 13 Ko’s) of San Juan, Puerto Rico is preparing for his upcoming bout scheduled for April 25, 2015, almost one year after his last fight in the ring. He squares off against Robert Marroquin (24-3-1) at the Majestic Theater in Dallas, Texas. It’s scheduled for 10 rounds. Jimenez is the former WBA Fedecentro super featherweight champ.

Pattee Mak: You are coming off a 10 round UD loss against Anthony Peterson back on March 21, 2014 in California. What happened that you lost by decision and do you feel it was judged [92-98; 90-100 and 91-99] correctly?

Jimenez by Ruiz: The fight was a last minute fight. It was contracted at 135, he normally fights at 130. It was last minute. He felt good, he knows he lost by decision.

Pattee Mak: Anything you wished you did differently during that fight?
Jimenez by Ruiz: The timing was the key. If they gave him more time to train he would have been successful in that fight.

Pattee Mak: What were the reasons why you only fought once in 2014?
Jimenez by Ruiz: Nobody in 130 is willing to fight him and nobody wants to fight him. It’s a hard time trying to fight an opponent.

Pattee Mak: On the 25th you meet Marroquin. What do you know about him?
Jimenez by Ruiz: He knows he comes to fight. But we come to be prepared to any style he comes to the table and he brings to the fight.

Pattee Mak: How long have you been preparing for this fight.
Jimenez by Ruiz: Around 1 month and 2 weeks.

Pattee Mak: Who is training him?
Jimenez by Ruiz: Melvin Garcia in Puerto Rico.

Pattee Mak: Concerning Marroquin’s style of fighting, who do you compare it to?
Jimenez by Ruiz:Mario Santiago from Puerto Rico. He stopped him in the 9th round. [Jimenez fought him on 2-23-2013].

Pattee Mak: Marroquin’s from Texas. The fight is in Texas and sometimes well… the judges always don’t see what the fans see. Are you at all concerned about this?

Jimenez by Ruiz: We are going to go there and go fight. We know the fight is not going to the distance.

Pattee Mak: What’s his predictions, if it isn’t going to the distance?
Jimenez by Ruiz: Depending on stopping him between 5 and 6 rounds.

Pattee Mak: For this fight did you make any changes in your preparation during your training for this fight?

Jimenez by Ruiz: This is the best preparing that he has done in his career in boxing. He’s doing stuff very different and training very, very hard for this fight.

Pattee Mak: How do you rate Marroquin as a fighter? Jimenez by

Ruiz:He’s very hungry and a very good fighter. He’s going to be prepared for the fight and whatever Marroquin brings to the table.

Pattee Mak: Any words you’d like to say to Marroquin? Jimenez by

Ruiz: Nada.

Pattee Mak: You have 5 losses on your record. You mentioned earlier that one you wasn’t prepared for. Was the other loss a legitimate loss?

Jimenez by Ruiz: No. When I fought Carlos Molina and lost by UD. I don’t think we lost against him.

Pattee Mak: Real quick, Money Mayweather/Pacman. Who are you picking to win?

Jimenez by Ruiz: Mayweather.

Pattee Mak: Will Ruiz you’ve been a great help in interpreting this interview and I really appreciate it. But I have a few questions for you if you don’t mind? Currently you are managing Jimenez. What’s next for him after this bout?

Ruiz: I’m getting him prepared. I think he’s one of the best 130’s out there right now in the entire United States. What we really want for all the 130 pounders to give us a shot to fight them. At any time we will go to their houses and do anything we have to do to fight them at 130. This is the name of the sport “BOXING!!!”.

Pattee Mak: It seems to me that you getting a lot of “no’s# from other managers/boxers to fight Jimenez. Is this correct?

Ruiz: Yes a lot of people are turning us down.

Pattee Mak: I know his last bout he contracted at 135, would he maybe go up in weight to fight other opponents?

Ruiz: Yes of course. No problem as long as they give us the right notice for training we would fight anyone at 135.

Pattee Mak: This questions is for Jimenez. Who would he like to fight next?

Jimenez by Ruiz: There’s a fight coming up this Saturday, Orlando Salido[42-12-2] and Roman “Rocky”Martinez [28-2-2]. He would like to fight either one of the winners. Either one. And he’ll go to their back yard with no problem at all. We are willing to fight any place, anywhere, anytime. No problem with that.

Pattee Mak: Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with me. I wish you and your team the best of luck on the 25th. And Ruiz make that fight happen with either Salido or Martinez. Let’s put them on notice.

Jimenez by Ruiz: Thank you so much. We are on point with weight and April 25th. We are going to be ready.

Interview interpreted by Will Ruiz. The bout is subject to change.
