New York, NY (January 9th, 2015)– Jay-Z and Roc Nation Sports present Throne Boxing, an exciting nine bout professional card at Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City on Friday evening, January 9, 2015, broadcast on USA Fox Sports 1. The main event will feature a 10 round bout between defending World Boxing Council Continental Americas Middleweight champion Tureano Johnson versus Alex ‘El Principe’ Theran. The vacant World Boxing Association International Middleweight title will also be on the line. Johnson, 17-1 with 12 knockouts, a Nassau, Bahamas fighter now residing in Georgia, will face Theran, also 17-1 with 10 knockouts, Barranquilla, Columbia. Johnson, a 2008 Olympian, is favored to win by 10 round decision or by stoppage from the eighth round on.
In the 10 round preliminary to the main event, 24-0 welterweight prospect Dusty Hernandez Harrison of Washington D.C., with 13 knockouts, age, is favored by unanimous decision over New York City veteran Tommy ‘The Razor’ Rainone, 22-5-1 with four knockouts. Rainone has no power, and is 0-5-1 against mid range journeymen. However, Rainone did expose Carl McNickles last November, winning every round and the vacant USBO Welterweight title.
The vacant International Boxing Federation International Welterweight 10 round title bout between South African Chris Van Heerden, 21-1-1 with 11 knockouts, and Cecil McCalla, 20-0 with seven knockouts, Randallstown, Maryland, is a tossup. Van Heerden is training out of California and will probably win, but McCalla might surprise observers. The bout should be interesting, and could be the ‘fight of the night’ for Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.
In other bouts: 12-0 Jerry Odom is favored by knockout over 7-0-1 Andrew Hernandez. 4-0 light welterweight Kenneth Sims Jr. is favored by knockout over 4-11-2 Christian Steele. 1-0 heavyweight Zhang Zhilei, a 2008 Olympic Games super heavyweight Silver Medalist in Beijing, is favored by four round decision over 5-4 Hassan Lee. 4-0 featherweight Eduardo Martinez is favored by knockout over 0-2-2 Rigoberto Miranda. 5-0-1 light welterweight Wellington Arias Romero is favored by knockout over 3-6-1 Lee Kreisher. Debuting light welterweight Dustin Fleischer is favored over 0-2 Frank Jordan.
The Manhattan boxing card at the Theater at Madison Square Garden will begin Friday, January 9, 2015, at 6:30 P.M. Tickets are $205, $55 and $30 and can be purchased online via Ticketmaster at http://www.ticketmaster.com/Roc-Nation-Boxing-tickets/artist/2066282
