HOPKINS VS. KOVALEV PREVIEW

By T Street Controversy Live, RCM Video Reporter

Atlantic City, NJ (November 3, 2014)-–  On Saturday November 8, 2014 on HBO Championship Boxing Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins (55-6-2 32kos) will face undefeated Russian champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (25-0-1 23kos) to unify the IBF, WBO, and WBA Super World light-heavyweight titles. In the co-feature Sadam Ali (20-0 12kos) will face Luis Carlos Abregu (36-1 29kos). Vyacheslav Shabransky (10-0 8kos) facing Emil Gonzalez (11-8-1 8kos) will also be featured in an un-televised bout. The event will take place in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In August of 2014 Kovalev defeated Blake Caparello with Hopkins ringside seated next to Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events boxing. Automatically Hopkins presence on HBO overshadowed the fight and Kovalev hitting the canvas for the first time in his career. It was announced after the bout in a post fight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman that the bout between Hopkins and Kovalev was official.

Bernard “The Alien” Hopkins is the current 175-pound WBA Super World, IBO, and IBF light-heavyweight champion at 49 years old. He’ll reach the half-century mark in January of 2015 and still plans on continuing his career if successful in defeating undefeated 31 year old hard-punching WBO champion Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev on HBO Nov. 8. With 2 major titles and possibly 3 Hopkins has already reached a level of prestige that may never be experienced again. Hopkins is looking to be the oldest unified-undisputed champion of any division in boxing history. 13 years ago at 36 in 2001 Hopkins defied skeptics by defeating the then undefeated heavily favored Felix “Tito” Trinidad via 12th round knockout.  Hopkins has since defeated Oscar De La Hoya, Kelly Pavlik, Antonio Tarver, Roy Jones Jr., Jean Pascal, Tavoris Cloud, Karo Murat, Beibut Shumenov, and Winky Wright. Hopkins seeks to become the oldest fighter to capture the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO titles at 50 years old.

Sergey Kovalev is considered the most feared fighter in the 175-pound division. 25 wins with 23 knockouts Kovalev is very dangerous early on but is unproven after round 8 which he has never been. In October of 2010 Kovalev defeated well known journeymen Darnell “Deezol” Boone(19-21-4 8kos) by split-decision. This was the only time when Kovalev was close to being defeated. The fight went to the cards and Kovalev won the close decision. Kovalev has gone 15-0-1 with 15kos since including a knockout win in the rematch with Boone 2 years later in 2012. If Hopkins wins supporters are expecting Hopkins to overtake Kovalev as the fight progresses edging out a decision. Kovalev supporters expect a knockout of the 49 year old future Hall of Famer and want no excuses afterwards.

Hopkins vs Kovalev will be promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and Main Event Boxing. You can watch LIVE on HBO Saturday November 8, 2014 or in the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Real Combat Media Boxing and TstreeT Controversy LIVE will be providing daily and ringside coverage of this historical event.
