Trainer Ricky Lopez Sr., the father of Ricky Lopez Jr., also trains Cesar Holguin. In a Real Combat Media interview exclusive, Lopez made his prediction and talked about the card.

Ricky Lopez:” My son Ricky Lopez Jr. is gonna knock Antoine Knight out!”

Real Combat Media: How are you related to former world champion Mike Alvarado?”

Ricky Lopez: “Mike Alvarado’s father is related to my mom’s husband by marriage, so my son and Mike are first cousins. Mike has worked out with us at the Strictly Boxing Gym in nearby Brighton, Colorado.”

Real Combat Media: “Is your son Ricky ready for an eight round step up fight? He has been defeated three times?”

Ricky Lopez: “It’s all about being consistent. Mike Tyson said inconsistency kills a fighter, it is s his worst enemy. Rick Jr. was with Top Rank for his first two fights (2-0, two knockouts). Top Rank then put my son on the shelf for 14months. They were supposed to bring Rick Jr. up behind our cousin Mike Alvarado, but then Mike moved too fast, and we had to get Rick Jr. out of his contract.”

Real Combat Media: “Have you undertaken any new training preparations to up your game with Rick Jr. to the next level?”

Ricky Lopez: “We have finally taken things back to the very things we did as an amateur. Rick’s conditioning has always been there. We’re building up his confidence. We want Rick Jr. to bring the traditional tools of Mexican style boxing with the power he produces.”

Real Combat Media: “Is Rick Jr. ready for an eight round bout soon?”

Ricky Lopez: “Rick Jr. is scheduled for an eight round bout in his next bout in November.”

Real Combat Media: “How is the promotion for this boxing card with Rick Jr.?”

Ricky Lopez: “We actually had only 15 days to put it together from the time we secured the venue. This is our second card. Our first card was on June 21 and 1200 fight fans in attendance. We’ve purchased radio time and we’re looking for a better outcome in attendance this time around with a capacity of 2500 seating at the Crowne Plaza Convention Center.”

Real Combat Media: “Your son Ricky is a promising rising featherweight who got shelved for 14 months by Top Rank, which big time promoters sometimes do with some of the fighters they have signed, all of a sudden.”

Ricky Lopez: “We created New Generation Fight Promotion so that doesn’t happen again, and we have control over Ricky’s (ability to fight regularly) fights. Plain and simple, it’s about moving Ricky Jr., and finding new talent from Colorado and elsewhere.”
