New York, NY (July 25, 2013)– Patrick ‘The Punisher’ Hyland made his first ring appearance in 19 months a successful one for himself and new promoter Lou DiBella with a four round stoppage of Noel Echevarria in the main event at BB King Blues Club & Grill on Wednesday, July 23, 2014.
Hyland, a Dublin, Ireland fighting training with Tracy Harris Patterson in Newburgh, New York, 28-1, 13 knockouts, started a bit rusty, and needed two rounds to loosen up. His opponent, Noel Echevarria, a southpaw from Guayama, Puerto Rico, 11-4, six knockouts, tried hard and looked decent for the first two rounds in jab exchanges and game attempts to fight on the inside. In round three, though, Hyland began landing power shows with great frequency, and Echevarria took a beating as the pace slowed. In round four, Echevarria’s punches were mere taps as he continued to take a beating in a corner, prompting the stoppage by referee BenjyEsteves Jr.
Result: Patrick Hyland TKO 4 Noel Echevarria (0:54), Super Featherweights
Referee: BenjyEsteves Jr.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, unbeaten heavyweight Charles Martin, 17-0-1, 16 knockouts, Carson, California scored a third round stoppage of Kertson Manswell, 24-9, 18 knockouts, Marabella, Trinidad and Tobago. Manswell is 0-8 outsideof Trinidad and Tobago. Martin, who was taller than Manswell and weighed 240 pounds, had little trouble with Manswell, who weighed in at 265 but appeared to walk into the ring at least 280 pounds. Manswell and Martin cautiously exchanged single power shots. Manswell, carrying the extra weight, was already tired in round two. Martin dropped Manswell three times in the third round for an automatic TKO at 2:33 to retain his WBO NABO Heavyweight title. Manswell appeared to wilt due to complete exhaustion from carrying around the added weight.
Short but powerful former WBA and IBO World Middleweight champion Avtandil Khurtsidse of Kiev, Ukraine, 27-2-2, 17 knockouts, stopped an overweight Allen Conyers, 12-10, nine knockouts, Bronx, New York,at 1:23 the first round. Conyers, an effective welterweight, has now lost six in a row, and at 16 pounds about his correct fighting weight, took a bad beating in a corner from Khurtsidse before the bout was stopped. Current World Middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and his trainer Abel Sanchez were at ringside to scout Khurtsidse as a future opponent. Conyers is taking fights in the wrong division.
