You heard it from this reporter first. Luis Collazo is due. 2014 is the year of Luis Collazo. The World Boxing Association International Welterweight champion, at age 32, has been through the best and the heart of the division. Within his 35-5 record, with 18 knockouts, is the experience of a warrior. The time for former WBA World Welterweight champion Luis Collazo is soon coming.
Fresh from his second round knockout of Victor Ortiz at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, Collazo is now targeting the number six WBA worldwide ranking of Amir Khan, who he will fight on May 3, 2014, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If Collazo can beat the weak chinned Amir Khan, he will be ready to fight the winner of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. versus Marcos Rene Maidana WBC World Welterweight title main event bout, which will take place immediately after his bout with Amir Khan.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is getting old. No matter which direction he looks in if he beats Maidana, he will have to face the likes of Collazo, Keith Thurman, Timothy Bradley, Manny Pacquiao, Shawn Porter, Erislandy Lara or similar dangerous challengers. Collazo may seem like an easier bout to Floyd, but let this reporter assure you-Luis Collazo is not easy. Luis is a dangerous challenger, hungrier than the others. Victory over Floyd will go to the fighter who can get inside on Floyd successfully. If nobody gets inside on Floyd, then Floyd can fight a few more years. One thing is for sure though-Luis Collazo is not going away. 2014 will tell the story of how high the sky will be for Collazo, if he comes though.
