The rematch of the controversial fight between Carl Froch (32-2) and George Groves (19-1) is set for May 31, 2014 for the WBA (regular) and IBF Super Middleweight title. The venue has not been confirmed but leading contenders include Wembly, City Ground, Twickenham, Cardiff, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates Stadium. Froch prefers City Ground while Groves prefers Stamford Bridge. The official split is 85-15, but an alleged confidential settlement is said to have been made. This should give Froch the choice of the fight venue. Froch’s November 2013 victory over Groves came after a controversial loss stoppage by referee Howard Foster in the 9th round. This was after Groves (75% KO percentage) knocked Froch (67% KO percentage) down in the first round of their November fight.
Groves unsuccessfully attempted for the fight to be ruled a No Contest; the IBF did though order a rematch. Froch should hold a slight advantage in the betting odds for this fight as well. Groves only loss in his career is against Froch, while Froch has suffered two losses one against Andre Ward and a split with Mikkel Kessler. Many fans have asked for Froch to have a rematch against the undefeated Andre Ward, the only loss Froch has not avenged. Froch hopes to fight Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr which should be a popular fight. This rematch though against Groves will be the biggest rematch in British history since Nigel Benn vs. Chris Eubank.
