Death Threats Cause Cancellation of George Zimmerman’s Proposed Charity Boxing Match With DMX
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
The controversy generated by George Zimmerman’s proposed celebrity charity boxing exhibition match with rapper DMX has caused it to be cancelled. After selecting DMX as his opponent, Zimmerman received numerous death threats.
Zimmerman was found not guilty in the 2012 shooting death of unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin. DMX, with his long history of arrests involving stabbings, shootings, rape,, drug possession, and driving offenses seemed to be the perfect candidate to knock off Zimmerman’s block and shut Zimmerman up for good. But it was not to be-at least for now. A ‘Cancel George Zimmerman’s Celebrity Boxing Match’ on Facebook got over 317,000 likes.
Celebrity promoter Damon Feldman, who had scheduled the Zimmerman versus DMX bout for March 15, 2014, had also received death threats and hired a body guard. Billionaire Alki David had backed the proposed Zimmerman charity match for his online television service FIlmOn.com. Earl Simmons, better known as DMX, stated he never accepted the proposed match, and his concert schedule would continue as announced.
