Brooklyn Brawl! Dmitriy Salita Interview and Brighton Beach Millenium Theater Fight Card Preview

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

Boxing returns to Brighton Beach Brooklyn, New York, at Millenium Theater, on Thursday, February 27, 2014, with an exciting nine bout professional bout card promoted by Dmitriy Salita’s Star of David Promotions. The main event will feature rising cruiserweight prospects StivensBujaj and Elvin ‘KoKo’ Sanchez in an eight rounder. Bujaj, 10-0, is an Albanian fighting out of New York City. Bujaj will face his toughest test against Sanchez, 6-2-1, Paterson, New Jersey, who is coming off a major upset, a third round stoppage of 13-0-2 prospect Venroy July at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C. in his last bout.

Real Combat Media: “Dmitriy, you are a world class welterweight fighter who recently fought a ten rounder with Gabriel Bracero. Yesterday I did an interview with former world light welterweight champion Demetrius ‘Chop Chop’ Corley, who beat Tito once and is calling out Tito Bracero for a rematch. Your views on this controversial subject.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Chop Chop is a Bernard Hopkins type of guy. I don’t see Tito fighting Chop Chop again, but if he did, I think Tito would be better prepared the second time.”

Real Combat Media: “You think Tito would have a better chance the second time against Chop Chop?”

Dmitriy Salita: “Yes.”

Real Combat Media: “Will your February 27, 2014 boxing card be televised?”

Dmitriy Salita: “The card will be televised by Universal Sports, an affiliate of NBC Sports, seen by 65 million people across the country. Universal Sports is showing the 2012 Winter Olympics (in Sochi, Russian Federation).”

Real Combat Media: “Besides promoting boxing cards in New York City, are you still in the gym training with Sugar Hill?”

Dmitriy Salita: “I’m back in the gym. I’m training in Brooklyn. I will be going back to Detroit to train with Sugar Hill, which is where I finish up my training.”

Real Combat Media: “You were inactive for a year before fighting Gabriel Tito Bracero. Do you think if you had fought more often you could have beaten Bracero?”

Dmitriy Salita: “I told Gabriel Bracero, if I had fought more often and I were sharper, I would have beaten you.”

Real Combat Media: “Cruiserweight prospect Steve Bujaj is your featured main event.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Steve Bujaj is a two time New York and New Jersey Golden Gloves champion. His opponent, Elvin Sanchez, beat Venroy July, a 13-0-2 prospect, in his last fight. Both fighters have had long training camps. It’s going to be a very exciting main event bout! I saw Stivens in the Mendez gym a couple of weeks ago, working with his trainer Billy Jiles. Stivens looked sharp. He’s a future world champion.”

Real Combat Media: “Isn’t a fighter between Bujaj and Sanchez risky for you?”

Dmitriy Salita: “Steve is very confident in his ability. This is the kind of fight that makes fighters. I respect both fighters for taking this fight, and taking it (their abilities) to the next level.”

Real Combat Media: “This boxing card will be in a renovated and redesigned venue in Brighton each.”

Dmitriy Salita: “This is a new venue, very different. It’s theater style. It’s new. It’s very very stunning. It’s like Madison Square Garden. It’s right off the train, the bus, and the highway. It’s a very exciting place. We’re bringing boxing back to one of the hubs of Brooklyn.”

Real Combat Media: “The six round preliminary to the main event features light middleweight Steve Martinez versus Mustafa Yusubov, who lost decisions to former world champion KassimOima and David Estrada, and knocked out former world champion James Page.”

Dmitriy Salita: “We (Star of David Promotions) just signed Steve Martinez. It’s going to be a tough fight. Steve Martinez won the National Golden Gloves, and was the outstanding boxer of the tournament. I think Steve is going to be a world class middleweight.”

Real Combat Media: “Super featherweight Angel Garcia is fighting a six rounder as well.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Garcia’s opponent, Micah Branch, is a slick boxer. It’s another tough fight.”

Real Combat Media: “Light welterweights Dimash Niyazov and Jonathan Cuba are going to mix it in a four rounder.”

Dmitriy Salita: “They are both tough fighters! Niyazov is a young prospect coming off the fight of the year. Cuba is coming in off a win. Both of these fighters have solid following in Brooklyn. I think it is going to be a great fight, boxer versus puncher.”

Real Combat Media: “Lightweight Marcos Suarez is another fine prospect on the card.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Suarez is another National Golden Gloves champion. A young kid with great potential.”

Real Combat Media: “Middleweight Iceman AkilAuguste will open the card.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Akil Auguste is a very talented and focused young man. He’s sharp, he’s got a heart, and he going to put on a good show.”

Real Combat Media: “You have a soldier fighting on the card, Shawn Cameron.”

Dmitriy Salita: “Cameron had an outstanding amateur career in the New York Metro area. He won the New York State Golden Gloves in 2007. He also served in the United States Armed Forces, in two tours in Iraq.”

Real Combat Media: “Where do boxing fans purchase tickets to ‘The Brooklyn Brawl’, your boxing show on February 27, 2014?”

Dmitriy Salita: “There are two websites to buy tickets to the Brrooklyn Brawl card.

http://www.ruconcert.com and http://www.dsalita.com or call 646-481-5558 for ticket purchases and more information. Ticket prices are $40 for general admissions, $100 for ringside seats, and VIP seating is $125. Doors open at 6 P.M. First bout is at 7 P.M.”
