Modern Heavyweight Marvels of The Boxing Ring! 56 Year Old Hassan The Iranian Assassin Chitsaz and 49 Year Old Bronco Billy Wright Keep Mowing Them Down

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

Bronco Billy Wright and Hassan Chitsaz are two of today’s modern marvels.

Wright, 49, has held such titles recently as the WBC Latino, WBC Fecarbox, and interim PABA. Add the vacant WBC Asian Boxing Council Heavyweight title to the list. In a battle of 300 pound plus heavyweights, Wright scored a fifth round stoppage on Friday night, February 14, 2014, in New Plymouth, New Zealand, over 30 year old Chancy Welliver, a 55 win fighter. Welliver was unable to continue after the fifth round with an arm injury, with his corner stopping the bout against their fighter’s wishes and probably ending his career. Turns out Welliver broke his right arm in the second round, and tried to throw some ineffective right jabs until his corner ended the bout, finally stopping the brutal one-sided beating old Bronco Billy was administering to their helpless washed up fighter.

Wright now 43-4, 34 knockouts, West Jordan, Utah, has won 14 bouts in a row. Wright was originally trained by former world middleweight champion Gene ‘Cyclone’ Fullmer. The faded Welliver, now 55-8-5, 22 knockouts, a New Zealander fighting out of Seattle, Washington, should call it a career after this degrading loss. If not, his luck might still be worse against another modern marvel, ageless Hassan Chitsaz.

Hassan Chitsaz, ‘The Iranian Assassin’, 56, has a professional boxing record of 24-1 with 24 knockouts. However, Welliver probably would not get the chance anyway. That’s because Chitsaz, who was once trained by the late heavyweight champion Ken Norton, fought his first bout in over 20 years at cruiserweight in April 2013, and scored a first round knockout in the lower weight class over Jose Torres in Mexico.
