Tragic Story of Hector Camacho’s Tombstone: Mom Pawned His Macho Chain

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Hector Macho Camacho is at rest. His tombstone, pictured above, is adorned with boxing gloved, and is always surrounded by fresh flowers (for now). Hector’s tombstone is a beautiful tribute. Macho got a decent burial, in the least. Some boxers and athletes do not.

The tragedy was Hector’s mother Maria Matias, pawned Hector’s legendary gold and diamonds Macho chain for $7000 to pay for Hector’s tombstone. A fitting move, in a sense, as Hector did pay for his tombstone himself. His Macho chain seems an item more fitting for either of the Pro Boxing Halls of Fame. Somebody missed the boat. Who paid for Hector’s funerals in Puerto Rico and Spanish Harlem New York City? How much money was Hector worth in the end? Evidently, not enough, if his jewelry had to be pawned. Nobody considered Hector’s mother had no money to pay for his tombstone.

There never will be another Macho man. There never will be another Macho chain. Where is it now? What will happen to it? Just like Bob Marley’s famed gold Lion of Judah ring set in onyx which vanished after Bob died, the charismatic Hector Macho Camacho’s gold and diamonds neck chain, a famous piece of jewelry in and of itself, has vanished into history.
