Craziest Fight of 2013! The Most Bizarre Five Seconds You Will Ever See

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Dwayne McRae versus Dennis Benson, May 11, 2013,

On May 11, 2013, heavyweights Dwayne McRae of Maryland and Dennis Benson of Virginia fought what is for sure the craziest fight of 2013. The bout lasted five seconds, though the outcome seemed like an eternity.

McRae, 10-3, six knockouts, Laurel, Maryland, and Benson, 1-6, one knockout, Norfolk, Virginia, began brawling in the ring before the opening bell, and had to be separated by referee Bill Clancy before the start of the bout. The referee managed to separate the two combatants and get them into the center of the ring for the stating of the mandatory instructions before the bout.

The bell rang, and punches began to fly. Benson nailed McRae several times to the head and face. McRae held onto to Benson for dear life and would not let go. The two fighters got tangled in a clinch along the ropes, Benson trying to throw punches, but unable to separate himself from the bear hugging McRae. The referee, unable to separate the two fighters as they wrestled, plunged to the canvas with the clinching two fighters. With the fighters still locked to one another, the referee had no choice but to signal an immediate double disqualification, resulting in a no-contest and ending the bout. The boisterous crowd yelling “Let them fight! Let them fight! Let them fight!” However, the five seconds of heavyweight action was all the disappointed crowd was gonna get.

In the post fight ringside interview, McRae stated “In boxing, crazy things happen.”
