Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal Makes His UFC Debut at UFC Fox 7

“Finally the shot I have been waiting for”

April 15, 2013

(Miami, FL)– Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (23-7) will make his UFC debut this Saturday at UFC Fox 7 in San Jose, California.  After coming off a back injury that caused him to pull from a long requested fight versus Pat Healy at Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine, Masvidal is anxious to enter the cage. “I’ve been sitting since last July,” said Masvidal.  I’m ready to get back in the cage and show the UFC what I’ve got.”

On April 20th, Masvidal will face Tim “The Diry Bird” Means (18-3) who is currently on a nine fight win streak.  Means, an effective striker, is sure to test Masvidal’s abilities on his feet. “Means is a tough dude,” said Masvidal.  “He’s coming in on a high note and I respect his abilities as a fighter, but, I’m hear to prove something and I intend to do so. This is finally the shot I’ve been waiting for.”  “There is a lot of respect between these two fighters,” said Tina Vidal-Smith, Masvidal’s manager at ML Management. “We’ve been in touch with Means’ camp and they’ve indicated how excited Means is to fight Masvidal and how much respect he has for him; well, the feeling is mutual.”

A Cuban American from Miami, FL, Masvidal got his start as a street fighter under Kimbo Slice garnering millions of views on YouTube for his backyard fights. Constantly trying to shed his street thug image, Masvidal is hoping a win in the UFC will gain him the respect he feels he deserves. “I’m constantly having to prove myself,” said Masvidal. “I work and train really hard at my craft. This is not a backyard brawl to me. This is my job. I just want
to be recognized for being good at what I do and get the credit I feel I deserve. Until then, I will continue to grind it out and prove myself as much as I have to.”

When asked if he might have any UFC jitters, Masvidal responded, “I’ve fought in big shows for a long time now.  My dream has been to fight in the UFC, but I have to look at it as just another big show. I have to keep my focus and go there to do what I need to do.”

Masvidal trains at the world renowned American Top Team under head coach Ricardo Liborio and is represented by ML Management.

Masvidal’s fight at UFC Fox 7 will take place Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA and will be aired live on FX. Follow Masvidal on Facebook @jorgemasvidal or on Twitter @Gamebredfighter.
