Osumanu Adama Versus Grady Brewer WBC Continental Americas Fight Preview
By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
Osumanu Adama of Ghana, the International Boxing Federation’s number 11 contender who lost a 12 round decision for the IBF world title to Daniel Geale of Australia in March 2012, will return to action after a one year layoff against International Boxing Organization Light Middleweight Inter-Continental champion Grady Brewer on Saturday, March 16, 2013, in the main event of a nine bout card at Tsonga Center at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Former World Boxing Association Welterweight champion Vivian Harris and popular Lowell super middleweight Irish Joey McCreedy are scheduled to appear on the card.
Adama, age 32, 20-3 with 15 knockouts, Joliet, Illinois by way of Accra, Ghana, will be attempting to win the vacant World Boxing Council Continental Americas middleweight, the vacant International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Middleweight title, and the vacant Universal Boxing Federation Inter-Continental Middleweight title. A victory for these belts would position The Chicago Fight Promotion promoter-manager team of Cynthia and Wasfi Tolaymat and their fighter Adama inside the WBC Top 40 middleweight ratings and position him for a televised world title shot against WBC World Middleweight champion Sergio Gabriel Martinez of Argentina. Adama is trained by Joseph Awinongya of Joliet.
Adama previously won the vacant IBO and USBA middleweight titles when he knocked out Marcus Upshaw in River Grove, Illinois, in March 2011.

Brewer, 42, 30-14 with 16 knockouts, Lawton, Oklahoma, has fought his career between 153 and 163 pounds. Brewer last appeared in the ring on August 4, 2012, when he won by a fifth round ‘Dracula’ disqualification against Giorbis Barthelemy in Atlanta, Georgia, when Bathelemy bit Brewer in the neck during a clinch. On June 4, 2011, Brewer dropped and stopped 21-0 Fernando Guerrero and won the vacant NABF Middleweight title in Austin, Texas. In August 2009, Brewer knocked out 18-0 Albert Onolunose of Canada. In November 2008, Brewer won a ten round decision over future light middleweight champion Cornelius Bundridge.

Prediction: Adama should stop Brewer between rounds six and ten. Adama, a spectacular fast jabber and straight power puncher with superior foot movement, will put rounds in the bank by outworking Brewer, who punches too wide to connect with a moving target like Adama. Brewer will try to take the bout inside, but a slick Adama will keep Brewer out of range, and exploit a slight reach advantage to bruise Brewer and stop him in the late rounds. Adama is a legit middleweight. Brewer is really an overblown light middleweight, and is not as effective at the higher weight.
