Julian Jackson’s Son Scores Frightening Knockout at Resorts

By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

Atlantic City, NJ ( March 9th, 2013)–In the walkout bout of a six bout card at the Superstar Theater at Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Friday night, March 8, 2013, promoted by Sampson Lewkowitz and Sampson Boxing, and broadcast on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes,  24 year old light middleweight John Jackson, the son of former World Light middleweight and Middleweight champion Julian ‘The Hawk’ Jackson, scored a frightening first round knockout to end the card.

The action occurred when Jackson, now 15-1, 14 knockouts, Saint Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, suddenly knocked out Alexis Pena, now 7-2, five knockouts, Sinaloa, Mexico, at 56 seconds of the first round. The ending happened so abruptly even the crowd in attendance in the Superstar Theater was stunned, as the main event light welterweight bout between Emmanuel Taylor and Victor Manuel Cayo on ESPN had seemingly just left the ring area. Some people were already leaving.

Referee Benjy Esteves Jr. immediately called the ringside doctors in as Pena was down and out for more than five minutes. Most fortunately, Pena miraculously would eventually recover and left the ring on his own power.

Jackson explained to Real Combat Media after the bout after his boxing career and in following in the footsteps of his famous father ‘The Hawk’.

“When the bout began I saw Pena coming towards me, and I saw he just had his gloves up on defense (cautiously) but was not throwing any punches. So I came forward, connected, and knocked him out and got him out of there. As for my dad, right now it’s not a big deal. I’m not accustomed to it (media attention). We are now trying to make a name for ourselves (John and his boxing brother Julius). This is what I was born to do. Boxing has always been in my blood since I was small. My favorite fighter was Julio Cesar Chavez. When the boxing magazines covered both my dad and Chavez on the cover, I would turn to the pages on Chavez and never read about my dad!”
