By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

Ikemefula ‘The President’ Ibeabuchi, 40, will face his fifth parole hearing in Nevada on May 14, 2013. Ibeabuchi, a highly ranked heavyweight contender with a record of 20-0, with 15 knockouts, was sentenced in 1999 to two to 10 years for battery with intent to commit a crime, and three to 20 years for attempted sexual assault, to be served consecutively. he was paroled on the first charge in 2001. He has been denied parole on the second charge in 2004, 2007, 2009, and 2012. The incidents in question took place at The Mirage and Treasure Island hotels in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ibeabuchi would be a longer shot than George Foreman to make a comeback in the heavyweight division, given his 14 years out of the ring. Ibeabuchi’s best wins were a 12 round decision over 27-0 David Tua, and a fifth round stoppage of future southpaw heavyweight champion 26-0 Chris Byrd. Ibeabuchi set the personal CompuBox punching record for punches thrown in a single fight, 975 versus Tua.

Ibeabuchi’s greatest asset was ring generalship, taught to him by trainer Curtis Cokes. Ibeabuchi was a cut above Mike Tyson and the Klitschko Brothers.

At 280 pounds, Ibeabuchi is more than likely to be deported back to his native Nigeria if he is released in two months.  Ibeabuchi has earned two college degrees from Western Nevada Community College behind bars: an Associate of General Studies, and an Associate of Applied Science in General Business.

Ibeabuchi had emotional problems later deemed to be bipolar disorder, for which he eventually received medication. Ibeabuchi abducted the 15 year old son of a former girlfriend and slammed his car into a concrete pillar on the Texas interstate. The boy suffered numerous injuries, and Ibeabuchi paid out a $500,000 civil settlement. Charges of kidnapping and attempted murder were reduced to a guilty plea for false imprisonment and a 120 day prison sentence-after the court ruled Ibeabuchi had actually tried to commit suicide.
