Omar Henry Buried On His 26th Birthday

Chicago, IL (February 11, 2013)–On January 27, 2013, five days before he died, light middleweight contender Omar Henry went public on his Facebook about his struggle with gallbladder cancer.
Omar Henry: “To all my friends and loyal fans: I want to inform you all that I am fighting the fight of my life against a disease known as gallbladder cancer. While I am in this current state, I am fighting with my family by my side, and I will not go down for the count. I am a champion who has chosen to fight not just for myself but for those who’s faith is believing in what you can’t see, and I will continue to fight!!!!!and fight!!!!!and fight!!!!! Till I knock this sickness out. Your love and support mean the most to me. Your prayers are prayers not only to me, but to others like me. Please be advised l am grateful for any and all support in any kind of way. Please inbox me. My family has continued to be by my side, and it’s hard for them as well. I want to thank God for (his) unconditional love, and (thank my) unconditional fans. Thanks again. Omar Henry”
On January 31, 2013, the day before he died, light middleweight contender Omar Henry posted this message on his Facebook. He was concerned his family was suffering due to his mounting medical bills.
Omar Henry: “To my friends and loyal fans. Thank you for all the good wishes and prayers. As of right now my situation has gotten difficult for myself and my family. I am in need of everyone’s support due to my financial struggle (mounting medical bills). My family is in need of any help possible. Therefore I am asking for any kind of help. Any amount will be appreciated. Please, if you can, send any donations to
[email protected], which is my Paypal email that all funds (should go to and) will help me fight this fight. Again, please send anything that touches your heart to this email: [email protected] through your Paypal account.”
At this point, Omar Henry’s final words express a desire to reach his birthday.
Omar Henry: “And God, grant me more time, to see my birthday.”
Then Omar Henry said his goodbye.
Omar Henry: “My love is to all my friends and loyal fans.”
Omar never reached his 26th birthday, but his soul did. Omar Henry’s viewing and funeral services were held on his birthday, February 8, 2013, at the Apostolic Church of Chicago. Omar Henry was buried later in the day at Mount Hope Cemetery in the Morgan Park section of Chicago. He is buried near Chicago’s Eddie Perkins, the former WBA and WBC world lightweight champion who died in May 2012. Omar Henry’s funeral service and burial was streamed live over the internet on usstream.tv, and was also recorded and will be available to fight fans shortly.
