Former World Heavyweight Champ Michael Dokes Passes away at age 54

Michael “Dynamite” Dokes passed away today at the age of 54 in Akron, Ohio. Michael had been battling cancer in recent months.
Dokes was known for his long reach and solid footwork. He had a professional record of (53-6-2) with 34 KOs. Dokes is best known for winning the WBA Heavyweight title by defeating Mike “Hercules” Weaver in 1982. He also had fights with Evander Holyfield and Razor Ruddock in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The fight against Holyfield, which went ten exciting rounds, was named by Ring magazine as The Heavyweight Fight of the Decade.
Dokes spent 10 years in prison for assault and drug trafficking, but spent his last years with his family in Akron, Ohio. Our condolences to the Doke’s family for their loss.
