UFC 151 Canceled, Hendo with torn MCL, Jones turns down Sonnen

By:  Sensei Phillip Palmejar

Breaking News, minutes ago Dana White announced that the entire UFC 151 card is being canceled due to their inability to find a quality short notice replacement for Dan Henderson.  Dan Henderson has now officially reported that he cannot compete against Champion Jon Jones at UFC 151 due to a partially torn MCL that was suffered during training with Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Despite the tweet rumors that Dan was doing well, the current situation alters the landscape for the light heavyweight division.  Dana White had this to say:

“This is probably one of all-time lows as being president of the UFC in the past 11 years.  For the first time in 11 years we are going to cancel an event.  Dan Henderson has a partial tear in his MCL and couldn’t continue.  He tried to train, he tried to continue to work out.  He saw doctors and there was nothing we can do.

For someone to fight Jon Jones on 8 days notice is tough to do.  But to be totally honest with you guy’s, one guy did.  He said I would fly to Las Vegas tonight and fight him.  Chael Sonnen accepted to fight Jon Jones, wanted to fight Jon Jones.  As of 8 o’clock last night we had a fight.  We started working, I was going to do this call and it was going to be a differnt call.

The one thing in a million years that happened happened. A guy who is a world champion and one of the pound for pound best fighters turned down a fight and that has never happened.”

Dana also went on to state that Greg Jackson instructed Jon Jones not to take the fight against Chael Sonnen stating is could be “the biggest mistake of his career.”  Dana went on the record about Greg Jackson stating that “this guy is a fucking sport-killer.”

UFC’s official twitter account stated that all ticket holders will get a full refund for UFC 151.

“This fight (Jones vs. Henderson) is canceled and we’re moving; it will be Jon Jones vs. Lyoto Machida on Saturday, Sept. 22 on the Toronto, Canada, card at UFC 152,” UFC president Dana White announced via conference call on Thursday.
