Can Chisora really handle Haye when he can’t handle his own coach?

What is it with the impending Heavyweight bout between Dereck Chisora and David Haye?
Both fighters have been hogging the headlines of late due to all the ramifications surrounding their vaunted encounter. Even the BBC’s Newsnight programme has been in on the act recently hosting a ‘face-off’ between that of Robert Smith of the BBBofC, and Promoter, Frank Warren.
Inside all of that you have the mad world that is Peter Mann and his trainer, Don Charles. Recently the pair suffered a much publicised altercation which resulted in Chisora apparently being asked to remove the headgear of Charles, and attacked him. No reason for the unprovoked incident was given but Chisora has been quoted as saying that “I’m not a nutter. He asked me to take his headgear off and I physically attacked him.

“I won’t go into the details as to why he wanted his headgear off. There’s a way to tell someone something and it’s called respect.
“We are always arguing and rowing ahead of fights, it’s nothing new. When a fight as big as this against Haye is coming up, tensions are going to be high because it means everything to me to win.”

However, looking at the situation then a lot can be read into, primarily from a psychological perspective. Yes, the incident happened, and a few weeks ago as BoxNation were recording their ‘Beyond the Ropes’ documentary series; but could it not have also been a play to not only the cameras and public, but also to the Haye camp? Meaning that, as the impending bout gathers speed; it is more attention being placed on to the fight itself.
It is, in fact, reminiscent of several instances that has happened in the annals of sporting history but the pair are said to have made up shortly afterwards, with Charles saying “What’s happened has happened and we’ve moved on from it now.”

Chisora added that “this has been made out to be a big deal because people don’t see what goes on behind the gym doors.
“We are always arguing and rowing ahead of fights, it’s nothing new. When a fight as big as this, against Haye is coming up, tensions are going to be high because it means everything to me to win.
“We were both cool again soon after and now we’re focused on beating Haye.”
And they do say that all is fair in both love and war. Time will tell if this really the case, more so when this kind of situation is concerned.
