Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez is announced
Less than 24 hours after Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. dominated Andy Lee by a TKO victory, the Sergio Martinez fightis announced for the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on HBO PPV . Last night Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. silenced a lot of critics with an impressive performance over the Irishman Andy Lee. Chavez was able to put major pressure and pound the body of Lee from rounds 3 to 7. Chavez Jr. also showed he had a granite chin and is one of the most powerful punchers in the middleweight division. Many considered Andy Lee to be Chavez Jr.’s toughest opponent.
According to the Top Rank Twitter, the Martinez (49-2-2 28 kos) vs. Chavez Jr.(46-0-1 32 kos) fight is accepted for September 15th. That is the same night Victor Ortiz and Saul Canelo Alvarez are scheduled to do battle. Many feel this a battle of the top boxing promotions which are Top Rank and Golden Boy. Both events will be PPV.
Sampson Lewkowicz who is Segio Martinez manager said on his twitter today “I have received a call from Lou Dibella confirming Chavez Jr-Martinez is a done deal.”
There is some speculation that Golden Boy Promotions may move the Alvarez vs. Ortiz fight to another date.
