Joan-Guzman-vs.-Jesus-Pablon

Joan Guzmán  vs. Jesus Pablon

By: Scott Canipe

Joan Guzmán  31(18)-0-1 vs. Jesus Pablon 17(11)-2(2)

Guzmán  is the former WBO super bantamweight and super featherweight champion. Pablon is a solid  young veteran that is willing to give Guzmán a stern test.

Rd 1 – Guzmán drops Pablon with a beautiful left hook.  He throws 2 hybrid left hook/uppercuts and barely misses Pablon.  The skill set between he  and Pbalo is as wide as Tommy Hearn’s shoulders. Guzmán is the consummate counterpuncher. He is looking for counterpunching opportunities.

Rd 2 – Pablon catches Guzmán with a left hook to the head and Guzmán comes back with a right hook to the body.  Guzmán is measuring, and lands a right uppercut to the body.  Guzmán is measuring with the jab and throws a good right-hand and it lands solidly.  A right uppercut by Guzmán and a right hook to the body by Guzmán.  Another right hook to the body by Guzmán!  Pablon felt that one.

Wow, these guys are trying to counterpunch each other and Guzmán is getting the better of it.  Pablon is determined and he is still focused.  But he does realize that he’s in there with a tremendously skilled fighter, who has an incredible amount of experience.  Double jabs by Guzmán, now Guzmán bounces and is looking for counterpunching opportunities. Pablon looks unsure at this moment.

Rd 3 – Guzmán looks very confident going into the third round.  He is counterpunching everything that Pablon is throwing.  Pablon looks very unsure of himself.  Tremendous right hook to the body by Guzmán followed by another one!  What a tremendous move!   Pablon threw a left-hand and Guzmán stepped back and through a right uppercut and tag him hard!  Guzmán is going in for the kill mostly with right hooks. That right uppercut to the body was  lethal! WHOAAA!!!!!! Pablon is down by a right uppercut to the body.

Class is in session! The 35-year-old is absolutely is schooling that younger 31-year-old.  It’s Guzmán all the way! I cannot see this fight going the distance.  There is a controversy about a low blow with the right uppercut when  Guzmán dropped Pablon.

Rd 4 –  Guzmán is so quick! He is like a predator about to pounce upon prey.  Pablon tried to throw a straight left hand on Guzmán.  Guzmán throws 2 right uppercuts followed by a missed right-hand.  2  more right uppercuts and Pablon is down!  This young cat cannot do anything with Guzmán: Too experience, too skilled, too good!

Rd 5 – In the middle rounds, Pablon is looking to come on, but Guzmán dodging  and  ducks everything Pablon throws.  Incredible, Guzmán is such a tremendous fighter!  He slips, he catches, he ducks, and he comes back with counter punches.

But  Pablon appears to be coming back.  Guzmán better do something, because he’s allowing Pablon to get back into the fight “somewhat.”  Another right-hand by Guzmán, followed by another one!  Guzmán appears to be winded just a little bit. He is telegraphing his right hand.  Pablon just hit Guzmán with a low blow with the left hand.

Rd 6 – Guzmán is showboating a little too much.  He may be getting tired with the added weight.  This man was at his best at 122, but tonight he weighed in at 140.  Pablon is coming back! Guzmán is looking to his corner for instructions.  Pablon has been holding and now he is being deducted a point for it.

Rd 7 –  Guzmán comes out using his foot work, he darts in and out with the jab, looking to be more aggressive in the seventh round.  Guzmán coming in and out, showboating little bit.  But Guzmán has this kid.  Why is he showboating so much?  All of these gesticulations that Guzmán is displaying can wear a himself out.

Rd 8 – Guzmán is back up against the ropes and slips and parries every shot that Pablon throws, but he will not capitalize off of it. Then all of a SUDDEN, Guzmán levels Pablon with a tremendous left hook!!! The fight is over and Pablon cannot beat the count!

Joan Guzmán  knocks out Jesus Pablon in the eighth round with a tremendous left hook!!
