UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger PREVIEW

By: MMA Writer Mike Alexander

After a week off from putting on fights, the UFC brings us our first Fuel TV card ever, and they could not have picked a better fight to headline the card. Heavy handed Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger (26-5) looks to put his name in the discussion for the #1 contender position in the UFC’s Welterweight division, but to do that he will have to take on Ultimate Fighter Winner and all around cardio freak, Diego “The Dream” Sanchez (23-4).

Coming off of a spectacular KO of the Night victory over highly touted Jake Shields, Ellenberger kicked down the doors to the top of the welterweight division. Ellenberger truly has been a juggernaut as of late, with four of his last five wins coming by KO or TKO. With a background in wrestling, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as some of the best striking in the division, Ellenberger is a handful for any fighter to deal with. He will surely get tested by Diego though, because we know how much Sanchez loves a good scrap.

With four Fight of the Night performances as well as being known for his brawler style of fighting, you will never see Diego Sanchez in a boring fight. He reminds me of a less technical version of Nick Diaz, where he pushes the fight at all times and looks to slug it out with you. He is also like Ellenberger because he also is an experienced wrestler, as well as a brown belt in Jiu- Jitsu. No matter where the fight goes, Sanchez will look to push the pace.

My Prediction:

When this fight goes down, it will be an early contender for Fight of the Year. Everything points to that, considering these two love and prefer to stand and bang. I see Ellenberger pulling out a decision because of the power and speed of his strikes, but this fight will be a back and forth brawl.

Also on the card, Dave “Pee Wee” Herman looks to shut down Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve in a Heavyweight rumble. There are that many big names on this card, but it is filled with potential prospects looking to put on a good show for the crowd in Omaha. If you aren’t busy with work, I highly recommend you tune in for a great night of fights.
