ALEXANDER POVETKIN VS. MARCO HUCK

World heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin 23(16)-0-0 vs. Marco Huck 34(25)-1(1)-0

World heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin is looking to defend his WBA Heavyweight Championship against WBO Cruiserweight Champion Marco Huck. Povetkin enjoys a 20 pound weight advantage as they weighed: Alexander Povetkin 229 vs. Marco Huck 209.

Rd 1 – Not much action in the first round as both men are feeling each other out. Both men were trying to get comfortable within a specific range.

Rd 2 – The size differential is readily apparent as both Povetkin has a 20 pound weight advantage. Both men using be jab endeavoring to set up other punches. Marco lands a couple of solid jabs, but he does not have the power of Povetkin. Excellent right hand counter by Povetkin that rocks Marco.

Rd 3 – Povetkin lands a good 1 -2. Povetkin lands another hard right hand as he drives Marco into the ropes. Povetkin landing some sharp combinations. Marco cannot do anything against Povetkin.

Rd 4 – Both men measuring each other. Marco lands some tremendous shots on Povetkin. Hard right hand by Marco Huck!! But Povetkin comes right back with a right hand of his own!! Excellent back-and-forth action by both men!

Povetkin was definitely rattled momentarily. Povetkin throws the jab a left uppercuts follows by right hand. Marco looking to counter with his own right hand. Povetkin bobs and weaves out of harms way. A much better round for Marco Huck!

Rd 5 – Marco appears to have some confidence growing on his part as he attempts to engage Povetkin more and more. Excellent jab by Marco! Marco is feinting trying to offset Povetkin. Povetkin looking a little fatigued by breathing heavily.
They trade shots after the bell!!

Rd 6 – Both men coming out for the six round meaning business. Excellent right hand by Povetkin over the left hook of Marco Huck. Nice right hooks to the body by Marco! Marco maybe outsized but he has definitely come to fight. Excellent combination by Povetkin, he threw a left jab followed by left uppercut and a left hook to the body! Close round.

Rd 7 – Povetkin lands some tremendous right uppercuts! Povetkin is the better combination puncher. Everything follows a hard crisp jab by Povetkin. But Marco is still trying to fight back. He just missed a whipping left hook. Povetkin is huffing and puffing. He just got caught by two hard right hands by Huck!  Several thunderous right hands by Marco Huck and Povetkin is exhausted! Excellent exchanges from both men! The best round of the fight thus far. Marco Huck definitely had Povetkin hurt!

Rd 8Marco Huck is looking to land that right hand. But he is telegraphing it somewhat almost as if he’s winding up to throw it. Povetkin looks fatigued in the middle portion of this round. He’s missing more of his shots now and looks a little sloppy in there. Nice right hand by Povetkin! Another one followed behind his jab. Whenever Alexander Povetkin uses his jab he is the most effective. Marco continues to be very measured and calm at the end of the eighth round.

Rd 9Marco Huck continues on in a composed manner looking for the right punch to land. He lands a tremendous right hand on Povetkin! He lands another one! Huck throws another right hand but Povetkin and comes back with the counter right of his own. Marco Huck has a very good right hand but he telegraphs it too much. Excellent right uppercut by Marco. Povetkin is winded and throws a halfhearted left hook.

Rd 10 – The championship rounds are here! Both men trade jabs. Marco lands a hard right hand. Good jabs by Povetkin. Good right hook to the body by Marco Huck. Marco appears to be the fresher fighter at this point, but he needs to take advantage of the weariness of Alexander Povetkin. These are two classic European fighters with a European-style. Nice inside action. They both exchange.

Rd 11 – Both men coming out looking very serious and watching for openings. Povetkin appears off-balance and exhausted. He throws a right hand and stumbles off-balance. Marco Huck should step it up and he could command this very close fight. Good right hand by Marco Huck! Now Povetkin comes back with a right hand of his own! They both trade right uppercuts but miss. Povetkin lands a nice right hand, but Marco is unfazed. Povetkin is going after Marco Huck but he’s missing most of his shots. He drives Huck into the corner and lands a nice combinations. They trade right hooks after the bell!

Rd 12 – Povetkin appears to want more at this point is he is defending his championship belt. He realizes the fight is close and he has more urgency at this point. He drives Marco Huck into the corner landing a series of powerful shots. They go to the center of the ring and Marco Huck tries to fight back. He lands a TREMENDOUS RIGHT HAND!!! Povetkin is staggered! But he fights back courageously. Excellent action!!! Another right hand by Marco Huck. These men are trading in the center of the ring. Povetkin has tremendous heart. He gets tagged with another right hand. And another one at the end of the bell! WOW! That is the way a 12th round championship fight should end.

Alexander Povetkin wins a majority decision! Very good fight and extremely close. But Povetkin showed more urgency in the last round to defend his championship.
